Got one right outside my house - Never been a problem, and is a good landmark for taxi drivers... Saves on having a security light outside too.
This exactly, one outside my parents house so we used to use it as the spot for taxi drivers to stop at. As everyone else say's it adds an additional layer of security.

We;ve got one outside in between us and next door on the boundary [also semi detached]. I like it, it helps to find door keys when we come home drunk [ not happened this year yet though although has happened plenty of times in the past]

  • Another positive vote here. My last three homes had one outside and i always saw it as a security benefit.
  • Had one outside our bedroom window on left corner of house, positioned less than a metre away from window, we purchased heavy blackout style curtains which helped a little but in the end had to request via local council a cover for it, they actually painted the rear of the light black, which surprised me but helped reduce the light into our bedroom and was fine for the 10 years we lived there.
In this property we have one near our back garden, it had never worked and the local community asked us to report any failed street lights, I did this, then returned home one evening to discover our garden now beautifully lit up with no need for any additional garden outside lighting 😀

Yes it would put me off. Already ruled out houses for this reason. Especially if it was one of the LED ones (which it will become eventually anyway).
