Lamp post outside front of house

Just a quick one. I am just wondering if a lamp post outside the front of a house (very close) would put you off?

How close is very? Two feet away from a bedroom window? Perhaps, but nothing suitable blinds can't fix. Saves having your own outside light I suppose...
  • About 2 metres. It’s right in the middle of two semi-detached houses.

If it's that close, you can ask for it to be shielded on your side.   Lights are gradually being replaced with LED ones that are more directional anyway.

I think it's nice to have free security lighting at the front!

Having light outside also helps a room feel bigger and will protect your privacy if your lights aren't
on but the ones outside are.  Otherwise, curtains exist.

I've got one outside my flat. It's by the lounge. If anything I do get the benefit of some light now the nights are getting darker earlier. I'm not sure how my upstairs neighbour gets on with it as any impact would be into his flat.

A lot depends on the position. 'Mine' is positioned where the brickwork is, between the windows.

I've got normal blinds in the lounge, which only come down when sunny and I'm trying to watch TV, and blackout blinds in the bedrooms.

For me when viewing the flat it wasn't a concern.

  • We've got one right outside ours, it's at the bottom of the drive but it serves as a night light for our son. It's also good security and when the neighbour's security light comes on along with the one over the road, it's like a Pink Floyd gig. Our curtains are quite thick though, so we don't really notice.

Got one right outside my house - Never been a problem, and is a good landmark for taxi drivers... Saves on having a security light outside too.

I have one outside mine and was wary at the start but I'm now glad as it feels safer. You can always ask the council to fit a shield to stop light coming into the bedrooms Image result for House Shield Led Street Lights

We're in a terraced and have one right outside and close to a bedroom window. It didn't bother me at all (I work shifts so sleep when it's sunny sometimes anyway!). My wife wasn't a fan though so we bought a better, darker blind. It wouldn't put me off in the future at all.

Another one right outside our house here too.... honestly never seen it as an issue. We invested in good decent blackout curtains for the rooms affected. It’s quiet nice in the winter months parking up and it being lit up, feel very safe being able to see so clearly.
  • Lived in a house for 30 years with a lamp post outside. Never had an issue.
Had good lined curtains in bedroom so no issue sleeping.
Never needed to put a light on when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night as had blind in there. Enough light to see but couldn't be seen from outside.
Kids never needed a night light.
I miss it now I have moved!
