Huawei P30 automatically deleted my videos

During a recent update on my Huawei P30 phone, a day or so afterwards I noticed some family videos were missing in the gallery folder. So after panicking for an hour decided to check the folder entitled recently deleted folder, and to my relief they were in there. But this could have spelt disaster because the recently deleted folder only stores videos or pics in there for 29 days and then they get automatically deleted forever.
And I know for a fact I didnt delete those videos, it all happened either during or after the most recent update. So it's a stark warning to all Huawei users.
But anyone know why this would have happened, as I could have lost precious family videos.

No idea why it happened , nor do I have any idea why you haven't backed them up.

Just highlights how unreliable these modern gadjets are though doesnt it?
I did want them printed off to keep as photos should be kept really.
Besides the videos that got mysteriously put in the recently deleted folder was only sent to me a day before the update. So I doubt people back up that often.0 -

I'm more curious why it happened in the first place. We should be able to trust these devices but its clear to me we cant. I dont think you can beat good old fashioned photos. Or back them up on dvd, but thats just my opinion. I have lost photos before on an sd card, couldn't retrieve them at all.0 -

Honestly, so many people have this “I’m not doing that” attitude and then down the line inevitably they complain that they’ve lost valuable content.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Why not they are only stored on a land based server .Same as your posts on this forum , same as every web page and email .Better than nothing and easily moved then deleted .1

Also worth mentioning that although Google is the default option for many Android phones (not sure about Huawei due to their current status with Google) other options are available such as Microsoft OneDrive. Again, it’s just install the app, turn on the backups and forget about it.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums.
