British Gas

New to this forum but thought I’d see if I’m not alone. As B Gas customer for dual fuel I was paying £125 per month but still not covering my usage. Had smart meters installed mid way but still remained in debit! When I decided to switch I was left with a hefty leaving balance of £ 361. New supplier charging £87 per month and I’m in credit by £190 No usage changes! I now find my daughter is in exactly the same position. Leaving with a £451 debit bal to pay. Anybody else been stung. I don’t understand it!

You gave BG frequent meter readings ?? What tariff prices .

If you were on a high rate expensive tariff with BG then you could have being paying more than a lower rate tariff with new company. Hopefully it is lower?
Your smart meters may have went dumb with new provider? Hopefully you are not relying on estimates regarding payment and credit total?
You can not really compare usage. If usage was say "A" some companies may charge £1000 some might charge £1500. on same usage.
That is why most people switch, to get a more competitive tariff.
And if you relied on estimates for first six months you could have incurred debt on account
What was the cost unit rates plus standing charges with BG and what are they now.

Louise - have a good look at your new suppliers bill. If it is one of those who only bills every 3 or 6 months - the figure you see on your account is the credits from the DD's - it does not include the costs of energy used until the statement is actually produced.
What consumption figures did you give to you new supplier - hopefully actual annual figures and not DD's.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Louise - could you give us your actual annual consumption figures (in kWh not £) for electricity and gas please
PS You can save even more money by having separate suppliers for you electricity and gas.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Total disgrace trying to contact BG during Corona. The phones are not answered when they are the people are not interested or helpful regarding excessive direct debit £85 per month and I am single OAP do not use that much especially during summer I gave meter reading which was not recorded what can I do I am very stressed.

@Silverbird65 How did you give your reading? - online, phone, email ?
There are companies with better service and rates ? Does your last bill say you are in credit ?
PS I thought you switched to Eon in 2019, did you switch to BG this year - if so why?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
This is my 71 yr old sister sorry. I have tried to get her on to internet but she won't. She uses the phone and is at her wits end. I just wish I could sort it for her. I am currently trying to get her to change. She is worried she won't get back all the money they owe her it's disgusting.
Thank you0 -
Do the sums for her -show her how much she will save - then switch on her behalf and BG will be forced to refund. She will get her credit back and in time for Christmas
Could you post one of her bills - with the personal info blanked out. ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I thought this thread was about LouiseLoxham posting?
Perhaps Silverbird65 should actually start with own thread to avoid confusion??The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
