Buildings insurance on exchange date?

I have read that buildings insurance should be arranged before or on the date of exchange of mortgage contracts.  I was wondering which insurers any of you had used that will insure a property either before or on the day of exchange (presumably a quick phone call after exchange has taken place to arrange cover to start that day?).  I've got a lot of quotes but I've called three companies so far and they have all said they either can't arrange cover for the day of the exchange, or some even before the completion date.

    What reason have they given?
  • I called my current provider and got them to add on the new property - they covered me for both my current house and the new house for the period between exchange and complete. I did have to pay extra due to the size of house I was buying. I'm with Lloyds.

I've now gone with Lloyds, they were super clear and helpful compared to everyone else, thank you for the recommendation!
