Toilet seat hinges

How long would you expect toilet seat hinges to last before they become tarnished and bits of the chrome coating flake off?
I got lumbered with cleaning the toilet today and noticed the chrome coating of the hinges was starting to flake off.
The toilet seat was bought in March this year.

About right. Urine can corrode the hinges very quickly.

Possibly cheaply-manufactured budget hinges with poor quality plating. Urine is acidic (albeit weakly acidic) so it won't take long for poor aim to corrode cheap metal.0

Should last a few years, maybe send photos to the supplier and see what they say?0

Depends on a lot.Price / quality (which may not be related, next stuff is often expensive and bad quailty for instance).Useage. How often you cleaned, with what and when.Depending upon the answers to the above between 1 month and 10 years.0

Not a consumer right to last xxAs said depends upon price paid and cleaning .0

I had to replace a pair of toilet seat hinges not too long ago and the original seat was fitted back in early 2009 so they lasted just in excess of 11 years.
The replacement hinges cost just over £30 so I would expect them to last a good amount of time.0 -
£30 on hinges? Jesus I've not spent half that for a new toilet seat.
Op, if you replace your seat get one with brass or stainless steel hinges.0 -
If it is any help 2 of our toilets are now 20 years old and the hinges still come up like new when given a quick polish.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0

Or are they proper metal hinges that have been properly chromed?
A lot will depend on what you are cleaning them with.Life in the slow lane0 -
In 40 years I've only had to buy one toilet (nine years ago), and that was because the old one developed a hairline crack in the cistern.Never had to buy a separate toilet seat, and certainly never bought replacement hinges! What do people do? **** in them?!1
