Do any of you have a bluetooth OBD2 reader?

  • Ah I get you, I think...

So you would suspect that the android app 'Forscan' would likely/possibly detect the DTCs?

Or is the issue not with the app but instead the Bluetooth device, so it doesn't matter what app is used on the phone?

I'm thinking you're saying it's the app I'm using because like with the laptop, it's just an OBD2 device just the same way the Bluetooth one is I would imagine?

The issue is that you're expecting an EOBD app to understand non-EOBD Ford-specific codes relating to parts of the car that EOBD simply doesn't cover.

Yes, a Ford-specific app may well cover them.

OBD2 is the US standard, EOBD is the European one.
ELM327 is the chipset, and it should communicate just fine - but many cheap devices (allegedly) use a different chipset that isn't quite fully compatible.

A cheap 2 button handheld scanner may read codes on 99% of cars, but will it show every code if there are more than
    a couple?  Possibly not.

Just because it can show a fault code on a particular car does not mean it can talk to all systems on that car, try
connecting to the ABS module and see how far you get. Try reading your injector codes with anything not
    Ford specific or expensive.

    Depends on definition of expensive.
If we're talking £1000s then from memory i know the YouTube channel The Savage Garage did his Mondeo injectors himself. In fact they might've been his dads IIRC as i know he also worked on his dads Mondeo for the channel. I also know he has an Autel piece of kit which cost a few £100 from memory as i searched it one time out of curiosity for what it cost. Whether that's what he used to program the injectors or not i don't know.

Nevertheless, i do get what you're saying though. More in depth stuff is likely to need things that end up costing more. This cheap equipment is ok for the super basics.
