As the original post was over 3 years ago ...... and the poster last visited the site a year ago ........... I doubt it will help? In particular that the subject of the post was relatively urgent - at that time.

  • Hi all,
I have also got this problem, and the links to the US embassy are now not found.

If there is someone that has some new information on the matter that would be great.

    Rgds
  • well, after 20 mins of looking i've found two that do it:
    Overseas Probate Service 01202 786289
    and IWC - 08006126105.

Both have costs for the service. which I will update tomorrow.

The solicitors mentioned above are Lester Aldridge solicitors, who offer an Overseas Probate Service
  • Coming to this thread late but have recently inherited three US Shares and the firms who used to do Medallion Stamps apparently now do not as the agent has ceased the service due to complexity of compliance and regulations. One firm is saying they may be able to get around it but will charge £1500 per shareholding! Has anybody found a recent solution?
I am seriously thinking that perhaps I should go over to USA to see them in person but would that work? They would still need to know the probate is genuine - seems to be a very daft system - a High Court Sealed probate is not enough. HELP please?????
  • Your normally need a relationship with the bank in question.
I was able to get a Medallion Guarantee , because my building society had a relationship with a corresponding bank over in the USA - and they only charged me the 'FedEx fees', although this was still roughly £60.

The reason why, is that the 'Medallion Signature/Stamp' provides insurance/a guarantee, and for more information, you can see:

Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!

You need the 'International Probate Services' at Lester Aldridge.

Did one of these recently for a client...it wasn't cheap but a lot cheaper than £1,500 (think it was £275)! The company are professional and communication streams were clear. The process is defined also.

What stocks are they? What are they worth?

Macfamilyent, which BS did you use in the above? Would be VERY helpful to know.

    Which building society was it?

I bank with both Barclays and Metro. Metro (UK) said this was not something they could help with. I'm open to all suggestions, including using Lester Aldridge.

To be honest, I'd rather pay £600/£700 for a flight to New York and a short trip, and get it done in the US, rather than pay £275 and not have used the opportunity to travel. That said, I don't know if it's even possible for a UK national to arrive with the relevant documents in the US, and get the medallion in a day. Next step may be contacting US financial institutions about this.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has done such a thing!
