Medallion Guarantee Stamp

(Forgive the duplication - I originally put this in the Anything Else Moneysaving forum - then thought it might get more attention here.)
Does anyone know where in London I would be able to get my signature guaranteed by a Medallion Guarantee Stamp?
I am executor of my late aunt's estate. She was a British citizen but long term resident of the USA where she purchased various shares. These now need to be sold and the proceeds paid into the estate account.
I have been sent an Irrevocable Stock Power form for completion by Computershare in America to enable the shares to be sold, but it requires my signature to be accommpanied by a Medallion Stamp Guarantee which my bank, of which I have been a customer for over 20 years (but not for much longer!) advises that they do not provide guarantee stamps, and no they can't help, and no they can't advise me about any other UK financial institution here that might be able to help.
I'm hoping money savers will be able to be a bit more helpful than HSBC.
Thanks

Hi Caffg,
Didn't have a clue what they were so did a quick google and found this on a Tesco site - http://www.tescocorporate.com/page.aspx?pointerid=81F34D1E645242C3AD2F9130A7BCCB9C
On here they mention the Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas which is presumably who they use.
Couldn't you do this through a sharebroker from the US?
Maybe a company in the US that is linked with Barclays?Gordon Brown ate my hamster0 -
Sounds like Computershare UK might be the people to ask (as you were sent the form by Computershare US).

You could probably find help from a Solicitor in the U.K. who is also qualified and recognised by the U.S. Bar
I have had to have things notoris(z)ed in the past for dealings in the U.S. and have used a guy in Plymouth, but he has since retired.
There are plenty of U.S. qualified attorneys in London'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

Nope, they will just redirect you back to Computershare US.
Might be something only USA banks can do?:rotfl:0 -
Seems to be a US institutional thing:
http://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Medallion+Stamp+Program
Medallion Stamp Program
A program approved by the Securities Transfer Association that enables participating financial_institutions to guarantee signatures. The Medallion programs ensure that the individual signing the certificate or stock, power is in fact the registered owner as it appears on the stock certificate or stock power. Any U.S. financial institution that belongs to a Medallion Stamp Program can provide Medallion guarantees. Such institutions include banks, savings and loans, credit unions and U.S. brokerages.

Not sure how you can get this done in the UK, perhaps you could try Citibank but I suspect you will have to go back to Computashare US and tell them that this does not happen in the UK and is a US only scheme.

Thanks to everyone for their helpful posts. I'm following up all the suggested avenues.0

I would have thought an international bank would be able to do it but alas thats not always the case because if you speak to someone at a bank in the UK about it they probably wont have a clue.:rotfl:0

This may help, depending on the securities you are dealing with.
