Does anyone know the maximum limit for an Amex card?
Which Amex card? If you want a specific answer you need to be specific with your question.
  • I know as well - but I'm not going to grass o:)

An Amex charge card has no limit: that is why they only give them to people they know they can trust.
And you can probably use an Amex Black card to pay for your private jet.

Actually they do have a limit which is dependent again on a person’s financial circumstances.

You can check to see if a purchase would be accepted on your charge card by checking your spending power via the app or online.
I am aware of an Amex charge card that has no set limit.

Go on name it then as this is direct from amex when I checked mine.

There are no pre-set spending limits on your American Express Charge Card. You can spend as much as you’ve shown us you can afford. Your spending limit is based on factors including your current spending patterns, payment history, credit record and financial resources.

    Larger than usual purchases

If your purchase is going to be a large one, or you’re going to make a significantly larger purchase than usual, it’s a good idea to give us a call on 0800 032 7642. Alternative, you can also use our check spending power feature within the American Express App or on your Online Account. For the App, go to the 'Statements' tab and tap 'Check Spending Power'. For web, simply go to Account Manager, click on Check Spending Power and follow the instructions on the screen.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

The answer with the Charge Card is "its complicated".

Several years ago I had a major mess up on a significant purchase (it was charged multiple times) and so had a balance of circa £50,000 and received a call from AmEx asking if I could make an interim payment but after explaining the situation and that £30,000 would be credited shortly they said that if I were to make a transaction of over £1,000 it would likely be declined (until the £30k was credited) however said that if I made multiple transactions of under £1,000 that in aggregate exceeded £1,000 it wouldnt be a problem at all... I spent circa £2.5k by the time the monies were credited and nothing declined.

Last time I used their online checker it said it would accept a transaction for £50k but decline a transaction for £60k... didnt do any further checks to find the exact tipping point.

The limit on my Amex BA Premium Plus card is £49,700 - though I am sure lots of people have higher limits.
Wow, i thought mine was high at £15,500
I still have a Gold Charge Card, but as far as I know the charge card limit falls close to your credit card if you have one, I've never been declined on any transaction for any amount from London, NYC, Singapore, or Sydney. It depends on how long you've been with them, my initial limit was £4500

The charge cards do have a set limit - Amex just don't tell you what it is and will decline anything above that limit. If you want to make a larger purchase, you have to ask them first and they may even request proof that you can afford it. As explained above, you can check your "spending power".

Amex have slapped a very punitive limit fixed limit on my charge card, I suspect because they're of the opinion I was being naughty.

Amex seem to be very generous with their CC limits, and also regular increases. Mine is, let's say, pretty chunky (i'm not getting into willy waving with numbers here!), and despite never coming within even a third of maximum utilisation, they still keep upping it.

Quite surprising really considering the rest of the world's financial institutions are falling over themselves to reduce their potential risk exposure. I guess we are just a classier and more trustworthy bunch of customers  :D

    Oh God give me strength..........................................................
Give you strength for what? If you ask a stupid question expect stupid answers.

The maximum limit would depend on an individuals financial circumstances.
Ah but in this case a stupid question got perfectly sensible answers.
