'They're all booked up!': Homeowners applying for the Green Homes Grant struggle to find installers

So, I successfully claimed for the GH Grant to have Solar Thermal installed as soon as it opened last year and was approved in the week before Christmas. Panic bells started ringing when I contacted the firm who supplied the quote, only to be told they would contact me back at a later date.

Last week, I received a short email from the company informing me that 'Due to problems with payment under the GH scheme, they have decided not to participate in it anymore'. ???

Well, I have informed the grants people of this problem and have been told to find another installer to replace them. Given that we are now in March and there are reports on how most are fully booked up and turning people away, I am now thinking of giving the whole thing a miss. Period.

I am starting to get cold feet, particularly on the subject of the 'after sales service' which can create more problems than it's worth. The whole experience has been dreadful so far.

Yes, received and job (loft insulation) completed; very happy.  I think it's a bit of a poscode lottery though.
