A large proportion of homeowners trying to take advantage of the Government's new Green Homes Grant scheme are unable to find suppliers to carry out the work, according to a new snapshot poll from MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis which lays bare some of the problems with the new scheme...

Once you factor in Christmas and New Year holidays 20% of the time required to access this grant has already gone, and as there is a finite amount of money in the grant fund those in major towns and cities with better access to eligible traders, the chances of my getting a grant are very remote and getting slimmer by the day.I also would not necessarily equate registration with Trustmark with being reputable. One of the companies I contacted for a quote said they would send me one! When I asked how could they do that when they hadn't visited my house and didn't know the size of my floor or doors were and what kind of doors I wanted I was given a load of BS

I’ve tried to get this done but seems a waste of time and energy can’t get through to anybody.0

I have several tenants I promised would have their flats upgraded using this scheme but it is a nightmare. If Martin can get the Government to make it work I shall do what I said. Apologies to my tenants.0

I think it very much depends on how quickly after the scheme was announced you started to seek advice/quotes. Following the advice to seek 3 quotes, I approached several installers on the "approved" list, which shows firms within a defined radius of your postcode. In our case, South Essex. All I spoke to indicated that they were "very busy" reacting to enquiries and for that reason were restricting their activities to specific areas. For example it appears that London companies won't come outside the M25. I had several who told me that their waiting list for coming out to measure up was at least a month. The good news is that I found one compaany that was fairly local, they came out and quoted within 2 weeks and we're now waiting for the outcome of the grant application. Installers have also been given the hint that the scheme is likely to be extended. So perhaps the message is to persevere?0

The whole scheme is a greenwashing publicity stunt. There are so few installers on the approved list that it's almost impossible to get a quote let alone the work completed.2

Be careful with the CWI it can cause damp. The Trustmark guarantee is questionable... Its the same set up as CIGA... same people.. my property is damp and my CIGA guarantee is not worth the paper it's written on. Google damp and CWI..0

It is not even that the suppliers are all booked up - its that nearly none are registered on both of the schemes required to be able to quote in the first place. I wasted many hours looking in to this for someone in my family.1

Am having trouble finding any double glazing installers who accept the green homes grant and cover Devon area. Anyone had any success?!!!

Has anyone actually received a Green Homes Grant voucher yet? I applied in the first few days of the scheme, and have heard nothing back yet except standard emails, despite chasing weekly. Is there any source of information on how many applications they have received and how many vouchers they have actually issued so far?0

I'd happily use a local builder to do work with me assisting, alas there not registered and won't be as it's not usually in big demandThey Gov have set up another confusing and time wasting system,No local intallers come up when I do a search0
