Solicitor insisting on a drainage survey before exchange

Hi all, our buyer's solicitor asked them to carry out a drainage survey. This was carried out Thursday last week and the drainage company confirmed to us and to estate agent that everything is fine. The solicitor however won't exchange until he has the physical report. There were no conditions in the mortgage as far as I am aware and this is something that was requested at the 11th hour after all the enquiries had been answered and a completion date agreed. I guess it came from a final review of the file. Has anyone come across this? Do we just need to sit back and be patient? There is a whole chain that is waiting on this and the solicitor is aware.

    It depends why the solicitor insisted on this.
    If it was as precautionary advice to his client your buyer, your buyer could ignore the advice and instruct his soliicitor to proceed at once.
    If it was on behalf of his client your buyer's mortgage lender, there is nothing anyone can do.
