How cheap is cheap?  What games do you want to play?
Realistically "cheap" and "gaming" tend not to go hand in hand...

You can't go far wrong tracking the HUKD threads, a couple of posters come up with some good ready builds cheaper than buying the parts and DIY
this poster is prolific a good starting point as often adds info on changing configs and prices to fit a use profile..

  • You really need to specify a budget. Some people think that £1,000 is a cheap gaming PC and in fairness is entry level if you are serious about gaming. And that doesn't include monitor / peripherals.

And the parts prices are just going up and up it seems.  AMD which used to be the budget option have now increased
prices so not that much of a bargain anymore.  New releases next month may put them ahead of the competition
    on performance though.

Watch some US youtubers a budget PC is one that costs less than $3000 or $5000.   My idea of budget is a lot less, but
I usually have a lot of parts to swap over. Board, CPU and RAM and its good for another few years. Drives and PSU are
usually swapped months/years after these  changes. Although next month may see me build a whole new system.

Define Retro. GTA 5/Online is about 7 years old and will need a reasonable PC unless you want a slideshow, download it
close to 100GB now. Same with Project Cars, which version, latest will need something decent to get the best?

You have not said what parts you need and what parts you can salvage from an existing system?

Used Ryzen 1600 / 2600 or i5 / i7  System?   Should be some reasonably priced systems out there soon.
