Look for a deal on a Sonos Beam and forget about the Sub.

As for what i want - just better sound. Better bass without actually vibrating the floor and walls. I'm not really for having a full on surround sound install but i read you can get soundbars that'll chuck out left and right sound if you get me? This kind of thing would be a nice touch.

Any sub would have to be located somewhere else in the room. Probably actually at the other end of the room behind or at the side of a chair, which would be maybe about 4 metres away (room is about 7 - 7.5 mtrs long and this TV is situated at one end.
Whilst your budget is below what most hifi shops are interested in serving it may be worth while seeing if your local Richer Sounds or such have got their listening room open in the current situation. Most the time they are happy to set up a number of options for you to listen to and whilst you may go on to buy something cheaper elsewhere at least you get to know the art of the possible and decide if a better sounding stereo setup or a slightly worse but more surround sound  setup is more to your tastes. Normally you can bring along your own DVD with material to watch/listen to so may be an idea to bring something you struggle to understand without the subtitles to see if it makes a difference.

If you arent big into your action movies then a separate sub may be better put on the nice to have rather than must have list. As already mentioned subs can be placed anywhere in theory however check the frequency response range for the sub itself, the higher above 80hz it goes the more sensitive to placement it will be.

I'd say get a soundstage . It goes under your tv and ontop of your cabinet .
The tv is raised slightly to compensate
I used to have a Cambridge audio one , and it was adequate for normal tv, plus music .
It had Bluetooth also, and was a doddle to set up.
Looking from the soundstage angle, you won't need subwoofer as they are often built in and you have less clutter .
I'd take the picture to richer sounfs and discuss with them your requirements ..

Ye-ouch. Just had a look. It'd have to be a very good deal.

Worth it IMO...I always found it better to wait and save for something half decent than just make do.

    Fair point to be honest.

^ This. The Beam is fantastic and a sensible size.

If I were to ditch the AVR I know its certainly one to be on my short list but it only realistically works with a TV with ARC and so would have to add the cost of a HDMI matrix to it :(
