Hi,

Just looking for a bit of clarity on exactly what the rules are right now. My friend stays in Georgia, USA and planning to visit me in Scotland.

1. Is he still able to make the flight
2. If he has to isolate on arrival is he able to isolate in my house?

Just found the information I could find not all that clear.

Thanks

Yes but he would have to stay in your house for 2 weeks and not leave it.

I think the household quarantine goes further than even that. The friend is meant to isolate in a room in your house. No mixing in common areas. If a shared bathroom, then after they use it you have to completely clean it. No shared towels/toiletries.

I guess the other option is you both stay inside together for the 14 days.
  • Yeah we can both stay inside for the 14 days.

Depends on the rules where you live. I know in a tier 2 area of England, you are not allowed to have visitors inside your home. Not sure if parts of Scotland also have that rule.

All of Scotland has the rule that you can't have someone in your house from another household.

https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-what-you-can-and-cannot-do/pages/seeing-friends-and-family/ seems reasonably clear to me, so he should reschedule his visit:

    Inside people’s homes

Do not meet people from any other households in your home or another person’s home socially, unless they are in your extended household.

I mean we've already been waiting since March and it doesn't look like there's going to be a change any time soon. I'm disabled and housebound so not able to leave my home anyway. The plan would be for him to come and stay here for a couple of months.

You would hope that rules will have changed by March anyway.

Do you live alone? Or does he normally live alone? If so then you could form an extended household and he would be allowed to stay in your home.

Only if they haven't already formed a support bubble.
