i don't think you need to be so apologetic. just write a matter of fact email. no need to bring any emotion or any attempt of deceit (or not) into it.Ellis931 said:Good Afternoon,I am staring with you on the 19th October I would just like to clear something up firstly I made a silly mistake on my CV I believed to be 100% true I stated that I worked for Role 2 from 2013 when in actual fact I have worked there from 2014-2020 this was a complete and utter mistake I tried to remember the date off of memory and was mistaken it was not my intention to deceive to get this job and very much hope the job offer is still open to me. I truly apologise it was a honest unintentional mistake on my behalf. This also means I Made a mistake with the dates of my apprenticeship which was 2013-2014 again tried to remember off of memory which is a silly thing to do I now realise.I can attach my old contract with role 2 construction for you to look at so you can see I am telling the truth.I can only apologise again and hope this doesn't affect my job offer as I am looking forward to working with the team.Kind RegardsDoes this sound ok to send to HR??Get Outlook for iOS
just write something like this
"I am replying with regard to your request that I confirm everything is accurate on my CV. I confirm that everything is accurate on my CV as far as I am aware, however, there seems to be a discrepancy with my employment history with the dates on my CV. I have found my contracts with my recent employer and the start date is in 2004 and not 2003 as I had incorrectly stated on my CV."
What about the apprenticeship? What dates does that span?Ellis - AskAsk's wording is better than mine - but get the dates right! Also add a bit correcting the dates for your apprenticeship employer - if they need correcting. Is there still an unexplained gap or not? (I've lost track). If there is, be prepared to explain it.

the reality is that the OP is not very accurate and is prone to making mistakes, and they are also not very clear in their communication when they are asked a question, so their answers will only create more questions. personally I would find it frustrating having the OP as an employee as it indicates the OP is difficult to get any sense out of when there is a situation that needs to be dealt with.Manxman_in_exile said:AskAsk said:

What about the apprenticeship? What dates does that span?Don't you start with the dates!!!
It's bad enough with the OP!I've also just realised I'm confused as to whether the OP went straight from their apprenticeship to employer B or whether there is a gap! Or whether it's not a gap but they were helping out/employed/volunteering/on a gap year/paid/unpaid/with a contract/without a contract/in the same building/not the same building. (OK - I made up that last bit about the building).
i am sorry to be so harsh, but that is how the OP comes across to me from their responses on this topic. i would dread to think that the OP is an accountant!0 -
I cannot explain this anymore I'll keep it real simple
I thought I started my apprenticeship in 2011 and left in 2013
after checking I then realised I started in 2013-2014
Then in the same year 2014 I started at my new job as a adminstor do you understand this now?THERE IS NO GAP IN MY EMPLOYMENT MY OLD BOSS EVEN CONFIRMS THIS I CANT EXPLAIN IT ANY OTHER WAY. 😩😩😩😩
Update though I have sent email and awaiting response I just hope that they see it was a genuine mistake I'm not out to deceive anyone if I was dont you think i would add longer employment history than 1 year. Also like I have said I made a mistake on the dates a Honest mistake I counted back and thought i was being accurate I didn't just pluck a number out of thin air.Thanks0 -
But the apprenticeship was my first proper job so before that I wasn't working this is what I don't understand people are not understanding My first proper job was in 2013 2011warby68 said:
So what were you doing 2011-2013. You have 'created' a gap which may prompt a question. Most people have a reasonable recollection of when they actually started work as it goes off their own age.Ellis931 said:
No I don't I've just explained I started my apprenticeship in 2013-2014 then in 2014 I started my other role does this make sense?warby68 said:Are there any missing years in your employment history?
If not and you purely have start and end dates wrong now you have the contracts rather than relying on your memory, I still don't think its a huge deal.
However you now have 2 unexplained years presumably? 2011-2013?
wrong I wasn't working then at all
in any compaticry0 -
Also for the people going on about a gap from 2010-2012 I was at College dping my a-levels somthin that I put on my CV which wasnt Picked up on how can I be doing an apprenticeship in 2011 but be doing a-levels till 2012 they didn't pick up on that I have been honest I made a few mistakes and error of
judgement
so once again for the people at the back before 2013 I was in full time education.Thank you0 -
At the end of the day I've Owned up to my mistake I will accept the consequences I did not intentionally lie. Or set out to be untruthful if you think I did well then that's your opinion and for people that say they don't understand or are confused you have a lot of opinions on it. I've tried to explain in the best way possible maybe at the beginning I wasn't clear my fault but that's it I've emailed them the outcome will be what it is hopefully they will appreciate me telling the truth and owning up to my error. It's better to own up than to sign a form that is asking you to confirm the truth if you realise that the mistakes you've made. Everything else is correct I haven't made up a job role or made up my responsibilities I got confused
With dates, maybe I was stressed as I'd just been made redundant have a mortgage and bills to pay and trying to find a job during a world wide pandemic it's not an excuse by any means I'm just trying to explain as to why some of you think I'm being deceitful x

People didn't think you were being deceitful.
Just trying to get the facts of your timeline so you can present them to HR in a non-damaging way.
With no gap in your history, just some date errors which could easily be typos, hopefully it should all be OK.1 -

if you have any questions from them, then come back and post it here before answering it, so we can help you answer in the best possible light. there are ways to present facts to your advantage depending on how you phrase it, or to miminise disadvantage. you may not think so, but I assure you there is.0
