It's not just Hermes at it: Royal Mail quite understandably stopped collecting signatures.

No one has told Post Office Counters to stop up-selling "Signed For".

I can deal with the constant "mishearing" of me requesting 2nd class as "First Class" when dealing with a POC staff member that hasn't realised I won't fall for it, but it's just dishonest to chivvy people into paying extra for a signature you know won't be collected.
Except signed for also offers enhanced compensation
True -- and that is great "compensation" for not having an actual proof of delivery signature! (Instead: signed for by no-one or "Postie"!)

    What would you suggest?
Removal of all services requiring a signature?
Postie gives the PDA a quick lick to clean it before handing over for a signature?
This may see a shift change in delivery procedures permanently but right now not obtaining sigs seems to be sensible

I would suggest not up-selling services that you know aren't being/can't be provided. I think that was clear enough in my original post. Hermes and Post Office Counters both.
    Silly suggestion ignored. :)
"not obtaining sigs seems to be sensible" -- correct. I said that too!

If you paid for a signature they will obtain the name of the person who they are handing the parcel to and record that name. I assume you can obtain the name of the person who it was handed to from Hermes

So,RM remove the signature element for SD,SF and Tracked.
    Charge the same,
    Tracking remains the same,

    Everybody happy?
