I am really very sorry to hear this and to be honest, it's something I would never have thought about if I was selling a car. You can look back and think you've been a fool but honestly, I'm sure many of us would have been just as trusting as you were. That's because we'd never do anything like that, it's nothing to beat yourself up about.

I really hope they catch the thieves and that you either get your car back or can be compensated.
Thanks a lot for the kind words, it really isn't something anyone should have to deal with. It's just not something that would have ever crossed my mind, for it to happen this way, as being comprehendible. The ultimate outcome for all of this would be them to get their comeuppance because they all deserve it.

    Thanks again

I'm always quite critical of mistakes people make when things could have easily been avoided, but in your case i would say you have done nothing wrong. You were in a situation where your selling a car so you have to let the potential buyer test drive it and there were three guys in the area who had the sole intention of stealing that car from you. So one of the best outcomes was for you to be unharmed and for the insurance company to reimburse you which seems to be what has happened, which is good.

There are some situations where avoiding harm to yourself is more important that prevent a material loss and this was one of them.
Thanks for what you've said there, it does mean a lot, as I do battle with myself in my head about what I should/could have done. It's a big lesson to learn, the only thing I can think of is the obvious - driving licence and take a photo of them.

Regardless though, these guys who do this as a living can easily fake a driving licence which would bypass your average Joe. Other option would be that they deposit 1p into your bank, so you have some way to connect them, but how far do you take it.

As you said, regardless of him being able to take my car there and then, he had another 2 guys waiting round the corner for me, so they would have left one way or another - so it was the best scenario that it could have happened in for myself.
