  • I haven't used my PayPal account for a long time, so this was the push I needed to close it altogether. I went to the site and the option to close was very easy to find. You won't be able to do it from the app, which I didn't have anyway. It shouldn't be difficult, but I know that's easy to say! There is, or was, a free phone number, which I've used in the long-ago past; I found it through a search engine, but unfortunately didn't keep.

Why would anyone have a Paypal account and not use it, that is just dumb.
  • Where did MSE get this information? Insider knowledge, or did Martin get it off his forums, like the old days?

well, I don't use mine- it was opened to make charity payments- but then they changed their policy. Frankly I didn't want it in the first place!

I can not find 'close my account'  on the screen as advised. I can upgrade to a business account!! but the close option is not visible.
Well, there's no money in it and my linked cards have expired. I would like it to 'die quietly'!!
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

  • Here is one for you: On the 14th I sent £10.00 to my daughters PayPal account, she received it, I checked my bank account and @PayPal had deducted two lots of £10.00.  I couldn't contact them at the time or the day after due to commitments but a day later they deduct another £10.00! When I contacted them they told me to contact my bank!!!!!  Just fobbed me off!!  I am awaiting a phone call today (16-10-20) from PayPal Management.  Since this new company took over its a pile of dog biz.

We did also use them for our business but we are sooo glad we moved. They abolished refunding fees when a seller issues refunds to buyers. Before introducing that they never refunded the 20p transaction fee but now you get nothing back!

  • Like Joy123, I can't open my account because the telephone number is wrong so my account can't be authenticated.  Any ideas on what to do?
  • If the Paypal balance is nil - they will not make a charge- so chillout.
They cannot make the Paypal account overdrawn for want of a better word.
Mine I use once or twice a year - to stop them charging me I only have to log in - just that!

Been trying to close an account for over a week now and get:

"Before you close your account  There's a pending transaction that needs to be completed first."

This is from March. Have contacted the company and there is no outstanding payments as the payment was taken. Only opened for a free £10.

  • As a follow-up to my 14th October post: Paypal have just introduced (couple of days ago) the 'phone call-back system to enable access to Paypal accounts...Except it doesn't work there either - so am now locked-out of accessing my Paypal account/Paypal account balance - as well as being unable it to be used for eBay payments!

What alternatives are there to PayPal?
Quite a few people only accept PayPal as payment method so you are a bit stuck unless you use it.
I have never seen any company that only accept PayPal ?
