PayPal is set to introduce an annual fee of up to £12 for users whose accounts have been inactive for a year or more - but you can avoid the charge by logging into your account before the deadline in December...

Are there many people who have money in an inactive account? I mean, I understand there will be inactive accounts. My wife for instance can't open one, because there's an old one against her bank account, but she can't access the email address it was setup against and has moved many times since, so PayPal won't accept any proof of who she is.0

As part of a community projecttwo years ago a group of us set up a bank account and a PayPal account to receive donations. The project finished six months later. There has been no money in the account and no activity since sometime in 2018. The bank account is closed. I tried to close the PayPal account, but they won't close it because our profile does not have a company number or a charity number. We were legitimately acting as a not for profit unincorporated association.. quite legal and quite common....but they have suspended the account and won't close it until we provide the information, which, of course we do not have as those requirements don't apply to this kind of project.
I just keep getting the same emails asking for this information and I keep replying that I don't have it and won't to close this formant account.
I have no idea how to get out of this impasse!!! Any ideas?

I don't think I have a Paypal account, but I keep getting emails purporting to be from Paypal, from very strange email addresses. I assume they are spam. How will we be able to recognise a genuine email from Paypal?

What alternatives are there to PayPal?
Quite a few people only accept PayPal as payment method so you are a bit stuck unless you use it.0 -

Perhaps Mr.Lewis should investigate the recent change (2/3weeks) where eBay now require a 'phone call-back from Paypal to confirm a 4-digit code to enable a direct transaction from a PP a/c. Except..it doesn't work - as I discovered on the 11th, despite repeated attempts: then told by PP to wait 48hours (Windows 10,etc) - still didn't work - then eBay support stated numerous users can't process transactions - but there was no time-frame to fix the fault: 'maybe 2months'.
So why was it introduced suddenly (ditto the CC payment - previously also an automatic service when logged on to eBay).
So I now can't use my PP account balance on eBay (an old-style a/c with no linked bank a/c).

Wasted so much time today trying to close off my old Paypal account. Unable to access it and don’t recognise the email or text option to reset password. Paypal help is unhelpful and the agent response is I need to FAX (really??) my driving licence, utility bill, and bank statement to them ..... might as well add my PIN numbers too. And Paypal claim to be a secure setup.0

I cannot access my PayPal account (unused for a long time) because the authentication telephone number is no longer in use.
