telephone banking

Yes, in my experience it is. If you phoned them, and they double-checked your details, that's what they usually do. In your case, they have asked the same questions, that is before and after your discussion, and they didn't ask for your PIN numbers or any other details which could be used for fraud. Had the bank phoned you, you'd be right to be very suspicious.obee81 said:I have just made a transaction on the telephone banking system, after the transaction was completed the teller asked me to confirm my address and date of birth saying they were confirming my details were correct. is this normal practice? Thank you
I'm also a council tenant and even when I phone them, I have to tell them my address and date of birth before they will discuss anything with me. No finances are involved, it's like fort Knox! Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Not curious, it happens to me all the time. With my bank and also with my credit card company. Nothing to be suspicious about.obee81 said:Thanks for all the advice everybody. Curious though, because as Katiehound suggested, I had already given this on automated call before being put through to person. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Sorry but I don't believe that at all. No organisation is so careless.whitesmith said:And for even more security the answers to questions such as your pet's name or your mother's maiden name do not have to be correct - for example I have a standard reply for my mother's maiden name which is in fact not my mother's maiden name! Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. Perhaps you're misunderstanding the point being made - the poster is saying that when the security question was originally set up, a fictional word was provided for their mother's maiden name (banks really don't validate such words during that process!) and that this has subsequently been supplied consistently (and 'correctly') whenever prompted thereafter. This is a recognised technique to improve security as it offers at least some protection against such names being worked out from information in the public domain on social media, etc.MalMonroe said:

Dont be so silly. Malmonroe would never, never, misunderstand the point being made and give the wrong advice out.eskbanker said:

Sorry perhaps my post was a bit unclear - eskbanker has posted a clearer version of what I was trying to say.MalMonroe said:

I know of one bank that uses voice id, and if a customer calls and is just asking a generic query (saving interest rate, where to send letter, where can I pay in a cheque etc) they will not take the customer though full security, but want to do anything account related and they will.Life in the slow lane0 -
OP, any particular reason why you're not naming your bank?0

My bank(s) do this all the time generally at the start of the call, I’m guessing they forgot to ask so asked at the end of the call.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
