Hello me and my 10 month old daughter have just been placed into a unfurnished temporary accommodation (private landlord placed there by the council) there is no carpet in the property and the flooring is solid concrete I have tried asking lwp for help with this(atleast the living room) as my daughter is crawling. They said they cannot help as it is a temporary accommodation. I'm in receipt of uc and child benefit . I was just asking around if anyone would know of any charities or other form of help in the bucks area as it is quiet dangerous for my daughter and have used most of the money I had aside on other essentials. Thank you

Thank youA budgeting adavnce maybe possible, if you've been claiming certain means tested benefits for at least 6 months but it needs to be repaid back from future UC payments. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/on-universal-credit/budgeting-advance/Local council used to have extra in the budgeting for helping families on low income, although it was quite some time ago that my local council helped carpet the upstairs in a house i once lived in. No idea if these are still available, you'll need to contact your local council. Although as it's temporary accommodation they may not help.

Unfortunately I've only been claiming for the past 2 months as I was previously working before the separation0

I don't have advice for how to get help, but rugs might be cheaper and maybe easier to acquire (e.g. from charity shops) if you're given financial help but have to source them yourself.
Also if you're okay with secondhand carpet, have a look on Freegle, Preloved, Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace (actually might be good sites for rugs too).5 -

There may be local [charitable] grants available for this purpose. You'd have to ask the council, Citizens Advice, or Child Services. The one(s) local to us will offer grants up to £500 but can take a few weeks to come through. The temporary nature of the accommodation would indicate that rungs you can take with you may be better than carpets.

Also maybe look for local social media groups - you may find someone with something to pass on.

Gumtree also have a free site but make sure it's your local area that you check.

Try freegle for offcuts or you could see if there’s any affordable end of roll bits0

Do you have family that could possibly help out?
