Is it worth getting sacked over?

Well that’s what they’re forThrugelmir said:To clarify. Are you wanting to take the full 20 days before the end of the year?0 -
The only solution seems to be either leave, kick up a fuss and take the holidays but know you’ll be out the door at the first available opportunity, or stay and resent the employer0

Is it worth getting sacked over?
For me, I'd leave before I was sacked. I wouldn't work anywhere without my holidays. However that is me, its whether you want to leave or not. Everyone's 'worth" or 'pushing point' is different to themselves.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1 -
Can you take 2 days a week for a couple of weeks?Assuming Saturday and Sundays are days off anyway, take say Friday and Monday, so 4 days together?Have to actually asked for 5 days holiday? put in in writingBreast Cancer Now 100 miles October 2022 100/100miles

You need to give both adequate notice of taking x days leave. Doesn't the firm shut down over Xmas or at the very least go quiet.n1guy said:

Is it possible to have a sensible conversation with your boss about this - making him aware that you feel that you are starting to suffer due to the hours?
If your boss has any clue whatsoever of how to run a business, he will want to know things like that. If you are a good employee he should want to try and keep you. He certainly won't be wanting you to go off sick - especially at a busy time. Perhaps that might be the push he needs to hire an additional person.
If you have been working for the employer for at least 2 years, he can't simply sack you, without opening himself up to an unfair dismissal claim. In an unfair dismissal claim it is up to the employer to prove that he had a good reason to dismiss you and that he followed a fair process in doing that - not the employee.0 -
here is the current situation on carry over holiday leave, which seems to indicate that employees can carry over up to 4 weeks of annual leave into the next 2 years. so i am guessing this is why your employer is forcing you to carry your holiday forward.
if they force you to work until you can no longer do so, then you would fall ill and that would be counter productive. maybe speak to your boss and explain that you are very stressed out and having sleeping problems, and that if you had to continue to work without a break, you will end up being sick and won't be any help to them.

Well I can see why that came out with COVID and people on furlough. It would mean people returning to work after 2-3 months off with holidays still to be taken. I wasn’t actually effected by furlough, it was a normal year for me. We could always carry holidays over, it suited my employer this way but it should still be the employees choice to do so or have I got this wrong?AskAsk said:here is the current situation on carry over holiday leave, which seems to indicate that employees can carry over up to 4 weeks of annual leave into the next 2 years. so i am guessing this is why your employer is forcing you to carry your holiday forward.

I’ll have to have an awkward conversation this week with my employer which I’m sure won’t go down well.0 -
We do yes. 2 weeks scheduled in, as is summer, I could be the awkward employee and say you gave no notice to change holidays like was done in the summer, we got told officially the day before that the 2 weeks were cancelled although we already knew on the grapevineThrugelmir said:

An employer that does not have people taking holidays is building up a liability the longer it goes on the bigger the liability,
If there are 5 employees that are all needed to run the business then with 5 shifts per week as base line that's 260 shift per worker.
Each employee should be taking 28 shift min as holiday that's 140 shift that need covering enough for more than one 1/2 time person(116 shift)
If there is some flexibility so people can cover others then taking on a part timer would help with the liability without impacting the overtime situation, as has been said if places have been going under there are probably people willing to take on a part time roll or a short term full time roll to help.
