Hey guys, can I ask your opinion on something?
For quite a while I've considered creating a forum specifically like our two threads for free cinema tickets here, but with much more space (e.g. a separate thread for each code).
Now I've seen MSE ripoff forums around before, as have you, I imagine - and I can assure you that is not what I intend to do (although the first batch of codes will have to be copied from here, I'm afraid)
My question is: would you consider it an MSE ripoff? If so I wouldn't make it, but I feel there is so much more potential for free film discussion that just isn't possible on a forum so diverse as MSE!

You want a thread only for cinema? Be more specific, pls:A
Thanks to those who help us to win !

Hi Sorry elski5! It's nothing personal. But company I work for block access to virtually all websites so have to use breaks to visit internet cafe thingy. So texts let me know when to try but as I said it costs.
    Sorry, I was just ranting!

I think it's a fantastic idea and I would want to be on it! We rip most of the codes from HDUK anyway (and they rip ours), so I don't see the problem. Codes don't belong to anyone, and film discussion is always a good thing! We could have a separate thread for film ticket/premiere competitions (as opposed to codes) and we could create spoiler threads where we could discuss film contents for people who have seen the film already, and people who haven't yet don't have to read the spoilers. There's a lot of potential there! Go for it!

I have to say two things.
    1. Aren't you reinventing the wheel ? All this can be done on MSE.
    2. Some of this is going back to how it used to be. Most people didn't like it because it didn't work very well.

You can have as many threads on MSE as you want to discuss an individual film, post spoilers, talk about cinemas, experiences in them, etc. etc.
Just use the Money Savers Arms forum - that's what it's there for.
There is already a competiton forum - just post film competitions there - if you want have individual threads per competition, great, if you want an "ALL" film competitions thread, then just have the one.
Problem is every time a new thread is started you have to look for it, unless you have an "index thread" that everyone knows about and it just contains links (with a description of what it is) to every other thread - entirely possible and not difficult to maintain - problem is people can't handle 2 threads properly, with dozens you will get posts in the wrong threads, people forgetting where they are with several windows open, reading a question in thread A - answering it in thread B.

As for the past problems, individual threads used to be started for individual free film previews - often with people adding new codes as found to the correct thread, however like not searching for, or finding a code within our current code thread, they wouldn't search for or wouldn't find the thread in question and start a new one. The big problem again with this is finding a new thread - you have to look. Keeping all codes together in one thread means you don't have to search (except within the thread) and allows the "subscription" and "notification" facilities to work.

By all means lets have dozens of threads in the Money Savers Arms talking EVERYTHING about cinema, but keep just 2 threads for FREE viewings, one for the codes/offers themselves (so that you don't get in the "can't see the wood for the trees" scenario) and another to discuss and ask questions etc. about the free viewings and the codes.
Post film competitions in the right place and mention them in the discusion thread and post a link.

There are 10 types of people in the world. ‹(•¿•)›

  • I'm not sure what you mean about past problems, but I appreciate your concern.
New codes should be easy to find, because I will lock old threads.
To get easily from a code to a discussion of a film I'll edit the links into people's posts (I've seen similar ideas work very well on other forums)
A long term idea is to divide codes by city, though this is difficult and fairly useless at first lol - but if there are sufficient members, I think it could provide an efficient system
And I hope that there will be a good community spirit there too, of course
