Track & Trace QR Code in stores - not working when scanned

Options
Not sure if this is the place to ask.
Many stores etc are now asking you to scan a QR code when entering areas in Coffee shops/Restaurants etc.
My iPhone 11 whether using the camera or a QR code app will not work. The camera transferring to Safari says 'no data found' and QR app says 'Safari cannot open the page', also 'The error was:"The URL cant be shown" '.
Anyone know why the codes will not work.
thanks

Assuming it is the new NHS codes, they need to be scanned using the NHS app.

You're supposed to use the NHS Covid app to scan the code.

Even from within the app, I find a lot of places the code does not work.  Just waive your phone at the code and they seem to let you in.
  • I’ve never even come across a QR code yet. Everywhere I have been hasn’t had one up.

"They" being who? The staff? There is no legal requirement to use the app.

No, but if it's a hospitality business they are legally required to make sure that people either hand over their details for track and trace or use the app.  If they don't they should be turfed out.

The Government guidance does say that venue should check people's phones to make sure they have successfully checked in, although I've never actually seen this happen.

Yep, the people working at the premises open to the public.
I thought they legally had to log your visit.

Yes. But nowhere does it say it has to be a) through the NHS Covid app or b) using a smartphone. Think about it: what about if you dont have a smartphone?

If anyone working in a shop or restaurant asked to inspect my phone, they wouldnt get a very pleasant reply in response to be perfectly honest.  They could just take my word for it.

The local pub-restaurant where I went for breakfast this morning was asking people to either scan their own code or the NHS one or if they didn't, give their first name and contact number which they wrote down.  What would happen if somebody (there must be some surely) has no phone at all?
