PPI Claim - Coban Solutions/DCB Legal

Options
Good evening everyone,

First time poster here, so apologies if this kind of issue has been covered in the past.
A couple of years ago I filled in an initial enquiry sheet with Coban Solutions Ltd who were offering to help people claim PPI.  To be honest I was being lazy and looking for an easy option.  However, after completing the initial form which only included basics such as contact details etc. I was totally bombarded with emails, letters and texts encouraging me to fill in their full paperwork and return it ASAP!
This totally put me off, and the full paperwork was asking for that much detail I decided to simply persue the claims myself using the Resolver Tool promoted on here.
A couple of claims were successful - hooray!  I was really pleased!  However, the wind was knocked out of our sails when a few days later we received an invoice from Coban for their proportion of their claim.

I decided to ignore this, then a number of months later we received a letter from DCB - who appeared to be a debt recovery firm.  I emailed both DCB and Coban, explaining that as far as I was concerned I never entered a contract with them and they were not entitled to anything.  I never received a response at all.
However, I have received a letter from DCB Legal today, which was an Urgent! Letter of Claim form, threatening court action in 30 days.
I've sent them a quick email to explain the situation, but they have sent an auto reply basically saying they don't correspond via email and am now unsure how to proceed?
If Coban can prove we entered into a contract then we'd be happy to pay (in instalments) but don't want to commit to that unnecessarily.
Had anyone had any dealings with Coban in the past?  Are they trying a fast one here, or have I perhaps entered into a contract without realising in that initial email?
Any advice or information appreciated!

Comments

  • Ask them for a LOA and inform them your account should be placed on hold for 28 days for you to receive the necessary information .

if they can’t provide it, complain and if they reject forward it to the FOS you can’t be held to court action during this process
  • Pardon the ignorance, but what is a LOA and FOS?

LOA - letter of authority. It is what you sign to employ the claims company.
FOS - Financial Ombudsman service  (it is who you may have to use if the claims company reject your complaint - they are mandated to inform you of the FOS when you make your complaint).
