Credit score and letting referencing

Hi all, first post here so please go gentle on me 😁
I am looking to move house into a new letting soon, I have been in the same house as a private tenant (dealing directly with the house owner) for 8 years. About 4 years ago I ran into financial trouble and was struggling to make ends meet, as a result of this my credit score took a battering. I have now upskilled and am earning about 10k more than I was then. 3 years ago I came to an agreement paying a set amount each month to each of my creditors and have continued to do so since. My question is this, when I move I will be likely to need my new letting agency to do a tenancy referencing search on me, will it be a problem if I explain what happened then and also explain that I am in a much better position financially now? Since coming to arrangements with my creditors I have not missed any payments on any bills or otherwise.
Thanks in advance.

Your credit score/rating isn’t seen by lenders or landlords/estate agencies. How are the accounts being recorded on your credit files?0

The information that can be seen are ccj and bankruptcy.
Would suggest you get a reference from current landlord0 -

They can't see your pretend rating.
You might want to clarify with them what they're actually asking.0 -
Dear all, I have run a credit search and found I have a CCJ from 2017 which I don't even know what it was for, for £197. Despite having a really good income and savings, am I correct in guessing this means I have no chance of privately renting as my credit score is showing as weak, although I have no debts at all? I am in a housing association flat but was about to try and move to relocate for a better paid new job.0

Your weak credit score doesn't matter, but the CCJ is likely to limit your options, but it doesn't rule out privately renting.
Obviously make sure you identify and settle the CCJ before starting your hunt.

Hi all, thanks for all of your input. From what you guys say it might not be as bad as I thought, I dont have any ccj's or bankruptcies. I have 7 defaulted accounts going back to about 2016/7, since then I have been good and not got into any trouble. I notice on clearscore that I can add what is called a "notice of correction", from what I gather this can be taken into consideration and gives me a chance to explain that I was not earning enough at the time and am earning considerably more now thus able to stand up better financially, is it worth me adding a statement to my file?

No. A NOC just makes things worse.0

Even if that were not the case, a notice of correction would only make the situation worse. What you explain as "was not earning enough" others will read as "lived beyond their means".
Just make the application, you will be fine.1
