CDA engineer broke my fridge

I live in a rented house, we've been here for 11 months now and moved into a house with a brand new fitted kitchen. The fridge never worked well and after being repaired twice, it was replaced under warranty in July. The new one has never worked properly either. Yesterday an engineer came out to re-gas it and due to a fault with his equipment, he broke it. He was very apologetic and left it that someone from CDA would be in touch that same afternoon about a replacement.

I never heard from them. I've spent hours today chasing them to finally be told that the fridge is not beyond repair but they don't know when they can fix it. As a result they've outsourced it to speed it up, but still can't tell me how long this will take.

I have a baby and toddler at home and it's not practical to shop multiple times a day and eat from the cupboard. I've also had to dispose of a whole fridge of contents. I asked them to compensate me for the food I've thrown away and they've said no, under their Ts&Cs they don't do that.

I'm so frustrated. Does anyone know where I stand? Thank you kindly.

Why do you have to go shopping multiple times per day?  Food doesn't go off that quick.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Thanks for your helpful reply. Mainly because I have a child with additional needs and specific dietary requirements, and food that needs to be refrigerated shouldn't be out of the fridge for longer than 2 hours.

You need to talk to your landlord as it's his fridge and his responsibility to sort a replacement or lend you something to do while you wait
Thanks. It's managed by an agent although they're bloody useless, but I'll get on to them in the morning.

All appliance manufactures at this moment are having serious issues supplying appliances right now so I I totally understand them having a problem in supplying a replacement at this time, but really the landlord is the one responsible to sort it
He should be going back to the retailer and pushing for replacement even a different brand
My suggestion to you is that you should buy a second hand fridge to tie you over and then resell it when you get sorted and you'll probably get all your money back on it

If you need to keep things cool, you could fill a bucket or bath with cold water and place the items in there.  Replace water as needed.

So surely you already have a plan in place for the child with needs and dietary requirements in case of a power cut or other event rendering you without means to keep food cold. I can’t imagine that plan was ‘immediately discard everything in the fridge..’

Did you ask friends or family  or neighbours to steal some fridge space? You don’t mention the freezer, but if that’s gone too, a bag of ice cubes in a bucket would keep stuff fridge cold. There really are other options rather than just Chuck everything out.
