Can someone help what are these plants/weeds in my lawn
Options
Hello,
Lockdown has given my a fair bit more time to look after the garden, and I've been working on getting rid of alot of moss. But there seem to be two new growths coming up now, attached are two pictures of one variety which seems to be cropping up more and more in patches and then spreading out, and then a third picture of a more fir like almost moss type growth of which there are a couple of patches but seems to be expanding too.
I've tried a google common lawn weeds but still a bit stumped.
Wondered if anyone would be kind enough to give me a pointer to what they might be, and what I can do about them?
Many thanks!

Just until you get an expert reply lol, looks like one of those is field horsetail? Also might be selfheal?Just my opinion, no offence 🐈0

Could be yarrow & selfheal

Thanks - just had a quick read up on both of those. I'd only found pictures of the field horsetail looking quite large and at height before, but found a couple that matched it quite closely just now. The flowers from selfheal look familiar from earlier on the year, I'd assumed they were coming from something else (there's a lot of clover in the lawn and I thought related to that). Two new things I've learnt today so far, many thanks!

Crikey, yarrow looks pretty similar to my untrained eye. Thanks for the pointer, will do some more reading

Googling yarrow it says its a scented herb so perhaps you should pop out and sniff it and tell us what you think! Lol 😹Just my opinion, no offence 🐈0

Yes, my lawn front and back developed an invasion of Self Heal this year just out of nowhere and it's hard stuff to dig out and spreads at a rate of knots. Not particularly good for wildlife either but it is a herb. So if you find a way of dealing with it please let me know. The Yarrow that small usually mows off .The last photo, not sure. The leaves and formation are like Self Heal but the wrong colour and slightly hairy.

As a by product, if you leave these to grow but keep mowing your grass, stop weedkillers & fertilisers your "lawn" will become a bees paradise

1. Selfheal... not easy to get rid of with a selective weed killer. Paint the leaves with a small paint brush with glyphosate.
2. Yarrow. Selective weed killer will work on this weed. In fact it grows big and frothy when treated, strangely enchanting as it dies!
3. Looks like a form of bristly oxtongue ecris echioides?.selective weed killer again or dig it out
Out of interest, do you live near fields growing crops?0 -
But Faraway the bees or any other insects didn't visit them. They prefered the high table of multiple lavenders and open flowers which aren't as hard work as teeny tiny ground hugging.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I picked a bit of both of them and crushed between fingers to see if any scent, just smelt very 'grassy' to me! Not sure I'd fancy trying selfheal as a herb based on that!Fields growing crops.. I guess not a million miles away, maybe 300-500m away with a few houses in between, were you thinking something carried over from them? Got a few rows of tomatoes, veg and fruit trees in the garden too if that's a factor?Looks like selfheal is going to be the challenge, does seem to be popping up everywhere at the moment!0
