Just for those who don't know the real world. My son works for the prison service. Whilst he gets a break for lunch (in fact, as part of his job, he gets very generous breaks), he is not allowed a phone or access to one during his working day which can often be anywhere from 7am until 9pm sometimes. Having a phone about his person is a sackable offence. Basically, he has to hand it in at the start of his shift and gets it back at the end.Unfortunately, some people don't understand this.He has already had an amazing professional opportunity turned down because his administrative staff forgot to let him know (3 times) of the date of a fitness test he had to attend (he'd got through all the other interviews). His Fiancee does the same job, so I'm finding myself more and more having to deal with stuff like the above.2

I I can’t understand why they don’t use email. It does seem odd because there must be some way of being contacted at work in an emergency.1

Look for another property....if the seller cannot even make a phone call in their lunch break how are they going to go to their solicitors to sign paperwork and hand over ID?
Even deep sea welders can get a day off in the week.2 -
This is not an emergency though.Caramac said:I I can’t understand why they don’t use email. It does seem odd because there must be some way of being contacted at work in an emergency.2 -
I understand it isnt an emergency but the property has been on the market since Feb so I would have thought she would be wanting to sell the house to usmoneysavinghero said:

I'd still be looking at other properties in any event. You never know what's going on in people personal lives day to day.0

This isn't really about knowing the 'real world'. I've worked 12 hour shifts in criminal justice settings as well. An employer can't insist that you have no way of communicating with the outside world, and even my most stringent employers would have come to some arrangement if I had urgent business I needed to deal with.newsgroupmonkey_ said:Just for those who don't know the real world. I’d probably look elsewhere. Sounds like the job is an excuse not to communicate. As others have said she can reply via email of an evening/ from the loo/ on her break. I wouldn’t want to be waiting weeks for a response during the conveyancing process.Btw I also work shifts 7-7.30 days and night and can’t just answer my phone but it doesn’t make me uncontactable 5 days a week.Mortgage started August 2020 £69,700

Im not allowed phones in my work place and have no access to email during my working day either. If there was an emergency a family member could contact my employer but selling a house isn’t an emergency.3
