    Hi
The more I read this the more confused I get.
I'm not a phones person and they don't interest me. Only have mine on me
when out alone. its an old phone cost a lot of money when first bought.
Can someone please categorically confirm that if my PAYG data is turned off as usally is if i am out,
will the app register and alert me as set out within the gov criteria??

I am aware that mobiles give of a coded signal even with mobile data turned off.

I thank all again but had to ask again

You were given this information in the first few posts so I fail to see how you're confused. The app needs to have access to the internet periodically to work, whether that is via your mobile data or wifi when you're at home, without either then it's fairly useless.
Sorry, I hope I've not offended you and sdid say sorry in the post and thanked all those that helped me and i personally quoted and thanked you. However, even a MSE board staff mentioned today they were a bot confused if it could work with the data off as did others
I apologise if I've upset you
    Sorry
    :)

Mobile data on or off, Bluetooth on or off, connection to Wi-Fi on or off - all totally irrelevant as the app won't work on an iPhone 4. If you want to use the app you will have to upgrade your phone.

Until you buy a phone that is capable of downloading the app, it doesn't really matter anyway.

    Bluetooth on

    Mobile data off

WI-FI on (whether back home or connect to wherever you are)

    Thank you all.
    The definitive answer is.
i can't get the app on my Iphone.
As long as the bluetooth is on and is as it connects to all four of our cars, and data is off, the app will work with a compatiable phone.
Some great help delivered here by good MSE members.
    Thank you
    :)

I think it works via bluetooth, if that's correct it doesn't need  internet connection..
It'll require internet at some point else it wouldn't be able to get updated data from you. Having said that even if you had mobile data switched on you won't be charged for using the app as there's an agreement with all the main mobile providers.
Although, bear in mind if you leave data running other apps might use some data even if you haven't opened them recently e.g. an email app might do a check to see if you've had any new emails, Google Play Services might download a file of a few MB in the background etc.
