Shell Broadband compensation

Shell Broadband are one of the rogue companies not part of the Ofcom compensation scheme. I'm trying to find out how much compensation I might get out of them. I was without broadband and landline services for a whopping 76 (yes, seventy six!) days. Under the scheme, I'd be due 76x £8 plus 2x £25 (two engineers didn't turn up) = £658. The complaint handler said all he could offer was a couple of months' refund. I politely said he'd better pass it up the chain to someone who can offer something closer to the scheme. What compensation have other people negotiated with Shell?

Also, I could just tell after a couple of days that I was in for a long wait, so I joined Virgin as a stopgap. I still needed Shell to fix the line so I can shop around when Virgin double the price in a year or so. Has anyone got experience of walking away from a Shell contract?

Finally, at what point can I involve Ofcom and what influence do they have with Shell?

Many thanks :-)
