Aged said: It would be good if this site could help compile a list of trustworthy IFAs.MSE isn't in a position to judge the trustworthiness of IFAs. Many of the best IFAs don't even advertise, which is why asking everyone you know for a recommendation should be step 1 - I realise you've tried that. Step 2 is to try the IFA directories for those who do advertise, and put a few through their paces.Aged said:When I do this, it comes up with ONE result, which appears to be a local one-man band representative of a Northern Irish firm of chartered financial planners. I'm not in NI, or even Eire.I'm confused, is the one-man band local to you or in Northern Ireland?Whereabouts in the country are you?0

In my local area. I'd rather not publicise my location but will PM it to you.Malthusian said:Aged said: It would be good if this site could help compile a list of trustworthy IFAs.MSE isn't in a position to judge the trustworthiness of IFAs. You dont need to say where but is it a particularly remote location in the far north? The rural areas of the South East, East Anglia, Kent etc have plenty of adviser firms. There is a particularly large number clustered in the midlands and Northern England and in Wales.Aged said:

The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Dunstonh no, not remote in the slightest. Will PM you also.dunstonh said:

Aged, I'm sorry if my responses seemed flippant and I can see that you have had previous experiences with FAs or IFAs that leave you nervous about starting with someone new. Finding a list of local IFAs shouldn't be too difficult, knowing which one you might develop a trusting relationship with is much more difficult. Personal recommendation is probably the only way to resolve that problem - but even there I am not sure it will be easy - I can think of people who are IFAs who I wouldn't trust to buy a round of drinks, although others are very happy with what they have achieved!1

Apodemus yes you've got it. I'm very, very wary and I need to find someone I can trust this time, but it just seems like an impossible task.Apodemus said:Aged, I'm sorry if my responses seemed flippant and I can see that you have had previous experiences with FAs or IFAs that leave you nervous about starting with someone new.
