How long before you hear from Track and Trace?

Does anyone know who long it normally takes before you get contacted by Track and Trace if you've been in close contact with someone with COVID? Someone at my work tested positive on Friday and I haven't heard anything yet - does that mean I'm not classed as a close contact and can carry on as normal?

That still doesn't tell me how long I should allow to be contacted by the track and trace people - or am I missing something?

Clearly it all depends on whether the person testing positive or your employer has given your details over to test and trace or not.

Doesn't stop you from making your own decisions as to whether to self-isolate or not.

No but it does tell you what a "contact" is defined as.

Thanks neilmcl - I'm trying to be responsible and am self-isolating just to be on the safe side but I will need to go out at some point so I guess I'll just go out but take as many precautions as possible. I'd be curious if anyone has any idea how efficient (or not!) the service is.

Agreed, you know better than anyone in a track and trace department how close you came into contact with that individual, how close the proximity was, at some point you might have to take a bit of responsibility yourself.

Again it really depends on how quickly or whether the person testing positive passes on your details or not. Do you know the person who tested positive, or more importantly do they know you and have your details and been in close contact with you?

BTW you can't take a half in approach to self isolation, you either full self-isolate or your don't.

I don't think I am a close contact but was erring on the side of caution.

I'm sure your employer will be in close contact with Public Health and ensuring that the correct steps will be taken.

You need to isolate for 14 days from the time you were in contact with the COVID person.  Never wait for test and trace please as that could take time and the infected person may not have even completed the contact form at all, in which case you will never get a phone call.
