Find the right dept in the local uni, put a few posters up (with tear-off numbers at the bottom).
The students will go down to waterstones, see the one for £40, see yours advertised for £30 and see £10 worth of beer in front of their eyes...

I buy almost all of my books second hand from student in higher years. A lot of this years I found through the Facebook market place feature. I've probably saved a stupid amount of money that way.
Also, I'm pretty sure our local Blackwells bookshop buys back books for them to sell again second hand. Might be worth asking any campus bookshops if they do that.0
