I have tried academic booktrade but they didn't seem to sell there. I have put quite a few books on Amazon marketplace and they are selling well. So I'd highly recommend there over say Ebay as they charge you listing fees only when the item has sold and I'd say Amazon gets a lot of trade/viewings so it's more likely to sell there than other smaller sites.0

If you live in London you can pack up all your books in a suitcase and take them to one of the second-hand bookshops on the Charing Cross Road. I've also recently noticed that a lot of people were putting up their books for sale on facebook. This year I organised a booksale in my department at uni, to encourage people to sell their books to those in the year below and buy from the year above. Unless your reading list has a brand new necessary textbook, this is pretty good for re-selling books you bought cheaply in the first place. I'm a literature student, and I found that charity shops often have all the classics for really cheap (bought a Soviet-era translation of the Brothers Karamazov for £2!!!). Look out for the ones in your area. Some of them sometimes are completely dedicated to books (I know Oxfam does that quite often). Another thing is to check out local libraries, this is more if you just want books rather than textbooks, as they regularly throw out old books or sell them for very cheap... Hope that helps!I :heartpuls Procrastination.0

I sold my English Lit and PGCE books on Ebay and recouped a fair bit of what I had paid initially.
It pays to list them at the right time - i.e. when students for the coming year have just been given their booklist. Students are probably more computer savvy than ever now and when it comes to purchasing course texts many will look on Ebay or Amazon Marketplace before buying new.
Good luck

Gumtree.com is a good free ads site, I've successfully shifted some old console games on there and had people come to collect them from my house. It's easy to use and although you won't get as many takers as you would on eBay, if you do get a sale you'll find the whole process a bit easier and you can probably get away with charging slightly more than the books might otherwise go for on eBay.
It doesn't cost anything and it takes about five minutes, so it won't hurt anything to give it a spin.
Hope that helps 0 -
Other than mazon, usually ebay is the best site of selling things like your old books. Just search for the other sites that can help you sell your old books0

The thought occurs that with so many potential students starting university this year, these message board threads could be a useful place to sell on unneeded books.
Mine aren't even in my bookcase now, they've been relegated to sitting underneath the DVD player in my room so that the SCART lead can reach it."Peter Pan is 2. Shirley Bassey is 3. Dr Ian Paisley is 4. King Lear is 5. Why?"
"...also known as taking in the Spanish Cub Scout leader. (Cryptic) (5)"
Thanks to MSE, I've seen Citizen Kane, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Serenity for FREE!

You usually get a good price on eBay, but it will probably only be worth putting them up for sale come Sept / Oct when students are back at University. Otherwise notices in your department, students unions, facebook, etc, have all worked well in the past.0
