Nationwide ends cashback on Select credit card

I've received an email from Nationwide this morning advising me of changes to the Select credit card from 1 December. The only notable change is that cash rewards are ending.
I'm not surprised, and it was only 0.25% anyway, but it was better than nothing.

My Statement date is 14th of the month and payment date on about 8th of the month and I will have to make a large payment of £8100 on the 20th of November which will appear on the Dec 14th statement which I will have to pay the statement on the 8th of January 2021, does that mean I won't get my £20.50?

I wonder if I could get an increase on my Amazon Platinum card from £4000 to £8100?

Does the receiver of the £8100 take credit cards would be my first question?st999 said:My Statement date is 14th of the month and payment date on about 8th of the month and I will have to make a large payment of £8,100 on the 20th of November which will appear on the Dec 14th statement which I will have to pay the statement on the 8th of January 2021, does that mean I won't get my £20.50?

Yes, it is for home improvements which won't be completed until about 20th November then I have 7 days to pay the bill.jonesMUFCforever said:

My assumption would be that transactions before the 1st december would still get cashback, but you could phone nationwide to check & if I'm wrong then pay the bill early if possible.
Or maybe try for a card that gives you a better than 0.25% return...1 -
20th November is the estimated earliest date and I am not paying the bill before the work is completed and I get an invoice.phillw said:My assumption would be that transactions before the 1st december would still get cashback, but you could phone nationwide to check & pay the bill early if possible.0 -
The email I received states that purchases applied to the account up to 30 November will qualify for a cash reward. Purchases applied after 30 November won't.1

Ah well, since the last cashback cut, I've only been using it for foreign spending. All my other domestic non-Amex spend goes on the John Lewis card. So this won't change anything for me...0

Could you perhaps agree with the firm a 50/50 invoice if they have done some of the work and you trust them? Least you'd get some income

No, I'll just put half on my wife's Tesco card and half on my Amazon card.Deleted_User said:Could you perhaps agree with the firm a 50/50 invoice if they have done some of the work and you trust them? Least you'd get some income0 -
Me too. Given the lack of travel in recent months and almost nil in foreign spend, I won't miss the cashback. I think recent applicants didn't get the cashback anyway.ratechaser said:Ah well, since the last cashback cut, I've only been using it for foreign spending.
Traditional advice is that one should maintain longstanding cards with high limits. I have a number of cards. This one is successor to my longest and has the 2nd highest limit. Pity, really, but it's probably time to bite the bullet and cancel it.0
