Nice garden Taff! Love the raised beds and arrangement. Did you hoike those sleepers in yourself?Farway, a stick didn't help me with any pain or balance when my leg suddenly would give way. And the whisky flask in the handle was just too tempting. That did helpI feel just fine with the poles and easier to use - if you use them right. You have support all the time where a stick you don't as you move it forward. Also they don't slide down when you prop them up which is a bonusThere's a clip at the top and you can adjust them in a trice. The measurements help you to remember if you move them.I have mine just below shoulder level. The aquaintance who's 89 now wizzes about at top speed as she now has balance problems.Borrow some for a go.They are also good at poking at plums and apples you want to knock off a treeBut a walking stick is better for bringing down high blackberry stems for picking. I have my grandmothers cane for that. And a thumb stick for pushing someones intrusive plant back over the fence........................It's been raining since this morning. Not heavy but decent enough for the plants.I skipped my swim tonight as it was cold rain.Promise of sunshine tomorrow , we'll see.

2P, they were very easy to do, they're all set up like lego with those huge long screws, two in each one. To take them apart again will be easy, just unscrew. And they aren't that big, only about a metre, [ thanks railways
] There's another bed opposite, 4 in length, one in width that the tomatoes, courgettes, tromboncino, celery and some flowers are in
I like the look of those sticks. I had a problem with my ankle for a couple of years which hasn't been half as bad since it got injected in February but it would randomly collapse which was a bit disconcerting. i did have a stick but those look much better. I will look out for a pair.No thunderstorm, just occasional rain today..lots cooler now but then it is late, or early

Those poles look great, thanks twopenny. I hadn't even considered that they would be adjustable height.
I like those raised beds too, taff. I've got an old railway sleeper as a mantelpiece in the houseWhat gravel did you use for your garden?? And what did you use underneath - weed suppressant or the landscaping material that Dusty mentioned a while back??
The pond needs a complete revamp, tbh. It's full of grass (not proper pond grasses), but I'm never sure when is a good time to do it. I'm guessing that's where the frog/toad came from, although I hadn't seen it in the water before DH relocated it from the bags of stones. There are also bog standard newts that I sometimes see flitting about. I would love a little waterfall, but after spending a painful amount of money on an electrician a few months ago, I think that's not going to happen anytime soon. A solar fountain would have been good, but it sounds like the one twopenny has only works when the sun is actually shining and that doesn't happen a lot in Scotland
Talking of which, it rained all day yesterday and I think that's the forecast for today too. Nice weather for ducks. And frogs...'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -

Oh no, thanks for the update, Farway. I did wonder where he'd got to. Hope you're back soon, Dusty.
Hope everything is okay in YBE's world too.'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -
Another warm & restless night, but this time I never got up at daft o'clockThere was some rain overnight, can't have been much looking outside, no puddles, just damp leaves, at least the dust & pollen will have been rinsed.I've reached the stage in the garden where I've finally caught up with what is needed, no more planting or sowing required for a bit, “all” I have to do now is keep on top of watering & weedingThose sleepers of Taffs, my neighbours have used ones that look similar, and seem to be substantial once in place. Thanks for poles update 2P, I'm still unsure but will keep a look-out, I think a YouTube browse may be on the cardsIf time & heat permit I'll tidy up the tomatoes in the conservatory, some lower leaves are getting tatty so can be removed, same goes for the ones outside now they have set fruit.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Awww I thought it was quiet around here Dusty. How am I going to know what weather is coming my way? You've been very good I thought, on here anyway. Hope you'll be back soon. You'll have a good stock of pictures by thenYup, not trying to push anyone about the poles but I couldn't see the point of them until I did it and it was a revelation so anyone get a chance to try them out a few times and see if they suit - like I didn't when offered - it's always worth a try when your bits refuse to do what you think they should.Got to work on my fitness now as it's hit rock bottom so off in a trice to do a walk round the block of hill and dale which I haven't been able to do for 6mts or more. Fingers crossed.I always used to take a real interest on the garden plants as I went, lots of good ones and different. Love chatting to anyone out gardening too. It's always a good introduction like dog walkersHere's a little spot, gone over a bit by the time I got there with my camera but a corner where seeds have been 'randomly' sown and it's so cheerfulStill going to be damp in my acres though it's dry this morning with grey cloud but brightish. Hopefully it will dry out and some tidying and feeding to be done. I feel a bit like it's getting ready for autumn out on the plot

I have the black woven weed suppressant under, the one with green stripes. I've been moving it round the place randomly for years
I have no idea what the gravel is. At the back is a concrete edged hole, 9ft wide, 19ft long [site of new greenhouse to be] , in it was 10 inches of gravel contained by concrete pavement edging type stuff [that went to someone building a shed]. I riddled it all to separate the big stuff, which is what that is. It's 20mm something but no idea what.
Oops Dusty...don't lie, you just wanted a break from posting for a bit to look after your lady wife properly...or go on hoildayYBE, hope Cissie is not giving you grief and you're having a whale of a time..Arb...working hard still?2P, we have a roundabout where they must have scattered wild seeds over the last couple of years, it's been a joy to go past. Sometimes, I even spin round it a couple of times just to see what's there.

Aww stop it with the lilies, they are 😍 beautiful, Farway. We have 4 bins, a general, a garden, a paper and card then a metal and glass all full size and thankfully no charge.Love the courtyard sitooterie and by the sea 🤗
Dusty my sisters gave me 2 different purple/blue geraniums, one is tall with big leaves and thick stems the other smaller with veins on the petals more like your pic , don’t know the names . Geraniums are such good doers, flowering all summer.
Grey and raining this morning, after a warm but relatively sunless few days. Did too much earlier this week, plus being first week back in work so trying to avoid too much in the garden . Last day in work then couple of days off, much needed.Saw something on a gardeners world saying about carrot so far from ground in pots avoid carrot fly, no idea if it’s true !Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6
