Hopefully you're not still a wonky donkey this morning Farway? Sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier.
You've gone from no birds to all the birds 2pHave you got a Hurry Up And Wait clinic at your docs? Or (dare I say it) an optician's?

I'd like a spotty plane thankyouplease. I'll squidge it in carefully round the concorde/vulcan/F16's.Aye, maybe, but other farmers went for it in late June. With the winds and the wet, the hay's flattened, and it's touch & go if it'll come up again with what's still to arrive. The end result could be no hay, just a lot of tough grass for sheep. We live in hope, though.
AS for the F16, they won't insure an old fogey like me, but perhaps I could be a named driver pilot on your spotty plane, like I am on Mrs Dusty's van?Reminds me of a school friend who always dreamed of owning his own fighter jet. Many years later, when they started flogging-off the ones that used to take off near the school, he bought one!

As the lurgy has altered considerably, and time has passed, it's possible the tests aren't reliable now, if they ever were. No personal experience here. I don't mean we never had it, only that we didn't know.

I've got something wrong like a spec of something - was in one eye now in other and swollen in the morning. And to whoever else needs a hug you've got oneIt might be miscommunication of some kind. I'll keep fingers crossed for Bluey and not give her any 'helpful' advice until she knows more. My walking friend had potentially serious indications checked out fully this week and got an all clear, so it's best not to fear the worst, even if that's a natural reaction.Hope your eye and Farway's list to port or starboard sort themselves out, as these things often do, given time and/or rest.
Having seen the forecast for today, I spent yesterday away from the homestead fixing our shopping for a week, while Mrs Dusty planted dozens of small perennials in anticipation of them being watered-in. That worked! No new photos, so here's one of the 3 tree stump piles we put in the willow grove as homes for wildlife. Mower for indication of size.Hmmm....that's not a good photo, so here's a clearer one of another pile.8 -

I remember Jeremy Clarkson bought an old Lightning fighter, made a programme about getting it home and parking it on his on [large] lawnI was very disappointed years ago when we went to some aircraft museum down Devon way while on holiday, forget the name, not Yeovil and the aircraft were very manky & dilapidated, no attempt to refurbish or repairJeremy's Lightening, OT includes advice on lawn care when parking jet fighter

I've just been out checking my waterbutts and various containers are filling so I'm a bit damp now. Does anyone else do this? I've also turned the lids upside down so they collect some water too..Mind you, mine is not a great set up, the guttering is wired to some wood through the concrete walls of the garge and it's a bit temperamental.Hope the lurgy abates soon pp.Farway, you could definitely get a job on Rottery Acres ships [well, might as well go big or go ...?] Yeah, don't bother with the watering...I'm aking the opportunity to plant out that stuff that's been languishing today so there are some very small hollyhocks that may get eaten [ not mine but I might as well stick them in], some verbena longname, some geums at the front and a couple of statys in the middle ish. I want one of those trees now too, but I think five is pushing it already
I'd like to watch the vidoe but I can't stop feeling the urge to punch him in the face, so I'm passing.
YBE, my mother was Italian but she never spoke to us in Italian. I think because she spoke dialect as a first language rather than Italian. She didn't want us learning bad habits. And tweaking wolfhounds? Can you tweak with some horns, that'd be cool or is that frankenfiction now? Fingers crossed it was nothing at opticians.I love that Falkirk wheel, I saw it the other day when I was watching something, think on fb reels or something, it's so damn cool. I did go on a boating holiday once [ not a narrowboat] and we had to navigate locks in Cambridge. Much fun for me. I was the skipper so all the getting off and on again had to be done by ex bf..his job was also emptying the bilges..because...2P, glad your birds are stepping up now they know what's expected of them!Dusty, your friend sounds like a bit of a mad one, but a glorious kind if he's buying fighter planes..Your stump piles are a bit mahoosive but then, you have lots of space so hopefully lots of insects.

The story doesn't end well, however, as the plane's engine cut out over Wales when the pilot was returning from a show. All he could do was point it at a lake and eject!
On the positive side, no one other than the pilot, who received spinal injuries from the ejection, was hurt.
The stumps aren't in the way. Among the willows on the quietest part of the land looked the best option. They wouldn't go well in many town gardens, though!

Shame about the spinal injuries and plane...but safer...Oh wanted to fly but he's colourblind so didn't get to do it..Yes, my stumpery is much more sedateNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi5

The 'whatever it is' has got worse, unfortunately
Came home a couple of days early last night so didn't get to see any crashing waves
I'm awake at silly o'clock feeling sorry for myself - good job I've been relegated to the spare room.
I've seen the Falkirk Wheel - it really is an amazing bit of engineering. It's fairly near to the Kelpies (think we've mentioned these huge horse sculptures before) and definitely worth a visit.
Glad you're getting bug eating birds, twopenny. Mine have probably gone off in a huff because they haven't been fed for a few days, although I did leave an insect infused suet block for them. Hope the eye problem is easily fixed, it's not conjunctivitis, is it??
Hope you got on okay at the optician, YBE and possibly got a blood test sorted if needed.
I like the 'listing' description, Farway
Hope everyone else is okay.'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -
I'm OK, thanks, pp.
I was up at silly 'o clock as well, but that's a different, 'older man' type of problem.
There's a test involved with that too......err.. but we won't go there!
As for the Covids, they're on the rise just now, officially, but some believe they're also manifesting in ways other than the traditional cough, headache etc variety. If that theory's right, you're better off staying traditional! There, that's encouraging news, eh?
Seriously, I hope it passes quickly, as it does for most of you young folk.
Well, we're still receiving battering here. There was thunder in the night, accompanied by lashing rain and wind, so even without other causes to wake, I was conscious at times and thinking of the hay, now flat and sodden. Because this is so unusual, I don't know if it will recover or not.I'm also feeling for those in a nearby village who are opening their gardens this weekend. If this abates, we'll go along. It's a posher village than most around here, so theoretically there should be some good sitooteries on display.Other than watering in the poly, we did no gardening yesterday. Instead, we spoke at length with an advisor we've taken on board for the next stage in developments at Dusty Acres. While not exactly virginal, especially after recent experiences, rocky waters lie ahead, and our continued existence here depends on crossing them successfully. There were many birds bathing in the ponds and puddles here yesterday, the 'rarest' in our garden being a young thrush, which I managed to grab a shaky photo of while it was drying-off.Dig the cardoons! Theyre nice until they either get infested with blackfly, or grow to about 2.5m in August, and then fall over.9 -
Oh pp, well if you've gotta be poorly at least your in your own home to do it. I hope it's soon gone
Is everyone else ok?
Bluddy 'ell them's some stumps Dusty. The wildlife will be happy with that eh. You must good wildlife down there do you? You can absolutely be a named driver pilot on my plane. Am I da yoof of this collective? Is there a limit to how many named folk you can have on a licence? I don't mind going on the chit and yous can all be names. And i wouldn't worry about insurance Dusty, sure it's not like they've got ANPR cameras up there
As for listing to port Farway, try moving the bottle a bit nearer so you haven't got to list to reach it ha haaI like'd your vid, look how young he was and all that hair! I know he's a marmite one, but I think he's good fun. You'd need the patience of a saint to be married to him though. Or live next door.
Yep I'm a water butt checker taff. I like to know of they're getting full so I can empty some of the old out of the bottom to make room for the new at the top. I don't want them gently overflowing cos that's a waste of the fresh stuff imo. We're well into fiction territory so ask for whatever you want. A wolfhound with horns? I'll do my very bestestIf we're having big ships at Rottery Acres we're gonna need a sea. An ocean might be a bit much to ask for... Ooh and a beach, for all the bad weather days
I went to the optician yesterday after the builders stuff came. She can discuss it with me if I book an appointment and pay for it. Pfffft. So I nipped into the chemist, they do blood pressure checks but not diabetes and told me to go up the docs. So I did. Mine has a special secure text service (?) so they ask you what's the matter and you tell them. If it's worthy of going further a doc will read it and poss ring you, then you may get an appointment. Possibly. You wouldn't need to be properly poorly eh  Hopefully it's a local thing you don't have such a rigamarole 2p. How's your eye/s today?
OT raining, a bit. Drunkards +sobers + tusky said last night it'd start after bedtime and lash 'til, oooh monday. Well it was mildly moist when I got up and started raining properly about half an hour ago. It's started and almost stopped in the time it's taken me to write this! Cement mixer coming this morning so himself is gonna get wet. But he's not sugar, he'll not meltI oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.6
