I am sulking here.
After a few warm days and much frolicking in the garden I have somehow stuffed my knee up. No idea if it was fighting idiot dogs out the door for a walk or overuse or what but it hurts. It feels like I have a tennis ball stuck behind it or that something needs to pop.<snip>Interestingly, the regulations about barn conversions were altered last month, making the planning options more flexible. We may yet benefit from the delay our neighbours caused!Fingers firmly crossed your digger guy has previous and can sort your drain field. As for the cash flow - well it never rains but it pours eh
It's harder on threads that move quickly, and the bit you want is on a different page. And yes, many folk here are millionaires, but with holes in jumpers, frayed shirts and vehicles that are more welding than original, because the £ is all tied-up in the farming/land. It doesn't pay that well, despite being 'highly desirable.' It's like an addiction, and old guys in their mid 80s can't stop. I don't want to become one of those. I'd happily take half an acre now, so long as it had a pond or stream that doesn't dry-up! That's why I had to look away from your bungalow, so close to that great fishing river, the Bann!
We were visited by Mr Woodpecker today. The one I posted earlier was Mrs Woodpecker. They never come here together, so maybe there are eggs or babies somewhere? Photos later.Sometimes drivers will deliver beyond 'kerbside' for a bribe consideration, 2p, but it's hard to know in advance. The Palfinger they use goes a fair old way, usually. Is there nowhere it could lift these heavy slabs to?
Lovely rose and ceanothus pics, Bluey.I'm running short of new ones, but a trip out today will possibly help.
Meanwhile here's a Feverfew....golden model, and just the leaves...* Comes with free 'Spot the insect.'
No Vanilla probs here 'cos I was fast asleep, pp. Vanilla's the right word for it though! B l a n d and rather obstructive, especially with smileys, and those have been censored. No rolleyes, for example. Might cause offence! Stay safe everyone! One benefit of being a 'conspiracy theorist' is having slug pellets that work.6 -
Sunny start so hope to take advantage of it, grotty rain on the way for tomorrowWhat lovely pics, wish I had poppies that just flung themselves around, and a nice early rose YBE. That does look a bit like the unknown name one my neighbour had that I took a cutting from, it's in DD's garden now, so saved.I have a climber, or is it a rambler? out, but made a hash of the picture, job for later todayGood luck with the drains & digger Dusty, supposed to be good for the rosesI did get the toms planted up into the conservatory, with space for one more at a pinch.Hoping to plant the cosmos I grew later today, forgotten the name of them of course
, either white candy-striped ones or mixed, I'll have to wait a few months to find out.
The intention is to sow some Californian poppies at the base of them, the original idea was to have Persian Jewels Love in M, but those plans have gang awry wi' the wee squirrel beasties.Trigger warning! The following contains images of grape flower that some viewers may find distressing,Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
I was just making my lunch in the kitchen and glanced outside to see the beautiful thrush from yesterday bashing away at a snail 🐌 once it had the snail out of the shell it hopped a couple of feet away to the right and fed a baby that I hadn’t even noticed was there 😍 It was just a mini version of the adult - so sweet ❤️ That’s made my day, although probably not the snail’s... 😁'A watched potato will never chit'...8

Waiting impatiently to be fed...
Yet another snail bites the dust...
My favourite clump of bluebells...

Finally got a bee but the front not the bumI did laugh at your snail annihilation! Love the bluebells, they're really fattened up!And I saw the insct, had to open in a new page though...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7

Lots of bird activity here too, pp. We
see a thrush now and again, but I think it's a case of “Blackbirds rule” in our garden. The house sparrows do well too, though we notice greenfinches will elbow them out of the way with impunity.
Taff, I tried but missed a brilliant bee bum photo yesterday. My friend thought I was somewhat mentally challenged when I explained what I was doing! It was something like “There are words for men who do that sort of thing!” Then we came upon a portly gentleman, prostrate, with a huge macro lens on his camera and a reflective thingy in one outstretched hand. He looked like a beached whale admiring itself in a hand mirror.
“You're lucky I'm not as bad as that,” I said, once out of earshot. “Well I'd not be here if you were, would I?” was the reply.
I'm off on another mission today, so still no new photos till tonight. I will see what's in my lucky bag. No grape flowers anyway....and Farway knows it.Ah, a sunset in May....just not this May!EDIT: I may have seen your rose, Bluey. There again I may not, but it's so early flowering it narrows the field a lot! Picture and name tonight or tomorrow. One benefit of being a 'conspiracy theorist' is having slug pellets that work.7 -
Awww your birds are a joy pp
A pretty clump of very blue bluebells too. I don't know about Vanilla problems if they occur in the evening, but they seem to have fixed it anyway.
What's the flower your bee bum face is on taff? They look the same shape as the petticoats I had to wear at school… hellish elasticated waist that’d near cut you in half when you sat down *shudder* Fingers crossed your hooking out works - I did that the other week with a wee thing I’d bought in morries (some climber or other). The beggars waited for it to get going before they got to work on it, there was almost nothing left but it does look a bit happier now.
Your trigger warning made me laugh FarwayI'm with you on the squirrels - I planted all kinds of everything and maybe half of them haven't come up.
You keeping your dredgings for the toms and roses then Dusty? I reckon yous'll be winning a lot of flower+fruit shows this year
It was a beautiful soft dawn this morning, almost autumnal. Misty and mild and peaceful. 12' out there now and just the right mix of sun breaking through the cloud. It'll soon burn off though, they say, and it'll be scorchioHad to cancel plans with Lovely Neighbour for tomorrow to go to an Open Garden. It's a local <person's name> Hall and I'll be missing out on a treat, but the sun + heat would be too much for me now. Has anyone else found that - you get less tolerant of heat/UV as you get older? Not that I was ever a sun worshipper but 20' and 5 UV never used to be an issue with a good slather of sunscreen...
Anyway, back off topic. This is a something in Posh Friend's garden. It looks to me like a Love Lies Bleeding but it's the palest lime colour. The fly was absolutely glossy jet black and big - like half the size of me arm big. I'm sure it was eyeing me up as lunchShe's also got fancy aqualegias (sp?) that she promised me some seeds from
I had a hen who could count her own eggs - she was a mathemachicken.7 -
Yoo Hoo 😎 back from holibobs last Sunday teatime, ran in got washer on for last of the sun, quick mow of the grass and got my stuff ready for early in work on Monday. I do early shifts but don’t work away.😉
The holiday was fab, bit of a mixed bag weather wise, but was expected, and the bay of biscay was ok, in fact on the way back the captain said it was the calmest he’d ever seen.
loads of pages of catching up to read through, so hope you are all well, and your seeds are reaching for the sky.
much rain this week but managed 1 day Weds to tidy up the front, lots of chopping and weeding, Next door wanted me to cut back something in the back garden which I did though I couldn’t make out that it was doing anything 😏 just got done and washing in before the downpour of rain. But bin was full and I done enough for 1 day, know my limitations.
Today looks like a cracker 😎 and don’t want to tempt fate but washer is on, and we have a sponsored walk/ pub crawl today for the local hospice.
