  • Lovely photo Farway! I tried to take one of my frost-and-snow-encrusted catkins in just-above-freezing fog, for contrast, but (not surprisingly!) didn't come out well enough to post! We have had snow laying now for c. 4 days, occasional extra flurries and (most days) lovely clear (but coldish) sunny weather... The catkins were looking hopeful prior to that :/

The freezing fog is clearing in patches but it got colder as I walked down the hill, so the ground is still frozen. Warmer next week.

Hmmm frost everywhere today. Even the sunshine on the moors wasn't warm today.
Was sure I was going to get the last of the bulbs in today (they will be ok here) but my gardening neighbour was out so we talked about it instead of doing it  :D

Covered my thymes with the plastic fencing and remains of some fleece over like last night. Fingers crossed. Will go back to the old method of digging them up and replanting deeper in the hope hope of the ripe wood creating roots and more productive shoots. Haven't done that for years.

Cheap boxed shrubs for sale in Tesco. Now's the time while they are fresh.
The fruit trees have been and gone.

Hard frost this morning, but sun is coming up nicely with a blue sky as well so should be another nice but cold day

Too frozen & cold to do anything outside, but I have a casualty :'( , one of my ornamental square terracotta pots has fallen apart with the frost, guess the damp compost froze, expanded & just forced the side off :o

The pot has a mini "Buzz" buddleia in it which should survive for a bit,
I'll need to buy another pot though, bummer. I could temporarily pot it up into whatever I can find in the shed but because the pot is in restricted space it cannot be any old pot forever

  • V hard frost but becoming sunny here too. We had freezing fog last night that's just clearing now. It's left a beautiful rime over everything, so picturesque.

Shame about your pot Farway, have you something for Buzz to go in temporarily? It'll be the devil's own job finding the same pot again....

    Did your thyme survive 2P?

Oh that's not a good start to the day Farway  :/
My sympathies. I lost 2 large specially chosen matching pots to the wind one year. Luckily (apart from my bank balance) I was able to replace with some waiting. But square ones are hard to find.
If you come across the ones with a plait on, they seem to remain very orange. Not sure if that maters to you. It annoys me but all I could get.

No frost this morning, 2c warmer but a very cold tough wind. The ground still ice solid underfoot.
So it's clearing the garage for me in several layers ready for the amazing gardening spring we are definitely due.

  • That's a lovely and atmospheric photo goldfinches

V cold and frozen solid here still, but the weather app is sticking to it's notion of a bit heat coming in a couple of days...

Several layers on yesterday and the wind dropped so I managed to get out for a couple of hours.
Trimmed tiedied up the raspberry canes and tied them up. They are already showing buds so that was satisfying.
Bit of hoeing and sorting the canes and pots that had been abandoned when the rain started and I got ill and ditto cleaned and hung the abandoned tools. Bunged in the last of the bulbs. They should like the damp to get going.
That felt good. Ready to start again now.

Warmer today, even a glimmer of sun.
That's a beautiful photo Goldfinches but glad I'm not there. That's serious cold.

Yet another very frosty but sunny morning, looking pretty, but you know it's just going to freeze your bones, and maybe other bits :D , if you go outside, so I'm sticking indoors

A cold looking photo GF, bleak even

I have another pot casualty, the top has crumbled away on another one :'( ,
I bought three of those identical pots to stand on my front steps, and conveniently block / hide a gap between the steps and house wall. Being just the right size but seems their time is up :(
Job for today though is turning the latest broken pot around to get the newly broken but knife sharp edges facing away from the steps and towards the wall, I'd hate to find the Postie or anyone using the steps gushing blood from a gashed leg

I may take a trip into Home Bargains later in the week, they often have cheap & tacky pots so may find some temporary solutions in there
I noticed my neighbour has a wooden square pot / tub, I guess something like that would do, even though it will eventually rot away
Ooops, just checked prices of wooden tubs :o , I think I'll have to go and lie down before I faint

I've had a message from an old Devonian with an update.
His other half has her knee op on track for sometime in next 12 weeks but is unable to leave the house, so he is struggling to get everything together, but glad end may be in sight by July
More legal argy bargy with his neighbours and not resolved but no doubt adding to problems you don't want.

Like most of us there is nothing much going on garden wise right now, and he has snow to add to it

    I'll add more another day
