Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Hurrumph! It's not only wet but very cold wind and miserable - again. I try to be positive about it and 'dress for the weather'. do jobs inside but really you get to the exasperated stage. On the plus side it's still light outside at nearly 5pm.So no gardening, not even standing out and planning. Just too cold and wet.So here's a bit of inspiration I saw when going round the village open gardens. This lady had planted hostas in zinc tubs so no slugs and placed them in the shade of maples. I just thought it was such a good gardeners idea

Weather same here 2P, dull, wet & soggy, No gardening today except looking at the drab out of the window, and the blackberry cane I missedJust to brighten things up a bit, I have an update blurb from Google Guides, in August I posted a pic there of a rose Abbey Gardens in Winchester, Google tells me"3,464 views on your most popular photo of 2022"Amazing, anyway here it is again to brighten this morning up, it's got rain drops on so a bit topical

Bladdy miserable and dreich here, the wind’s lashing the rain against my front windows. That’s a really lovely rose Farway! Is it fragrant…?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.0

I bought some daffs from Aldi the other day, they’re nearly all open now. I do love daffs 🙂

Sunny start but the normal rainy service will be resumed later, on its way from The WestYBE, sadly the rose picture I posted was one of those looks lovely but no scent type. And I have daff progress,
the Tete a Tete I thought may have succumbed to squirrels or vine weevils or summat have come up trumps again, no flower buds yet but green shoots now above the pot soil
I'm off to the volunteer place tomorrow so will check if any daffs showing there yet, that can be a squirrel dining room at times but normally enough survive to give a showEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2 -
Someone needs to breed a rose that’s pretty and fragrant and sell them for a reasonable price. They’d be squillionaires by Christmas! 😁I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1

Lots of those Blue, mostly the old ones. Just don't get me started!
Love the daffs. We haven't got them here yet. A dash of sunshine.
I did buy some gorgeous red tulips the other day. Worth every penny for the joy they bring.
Farway I said your photos were exceptional. Now you have 3464 people who think the same
Howling gale, torrential rain, freezing wind. Same tomorrow.
I did try a 40mile round trip to a major garden centre to try and buck the day up but it was flooded and very few plants. The huge restaurant was so packed I couldn't get a coffee and scone so drove home for lunch , cold and wet.
Not a good day.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Ooh fingers crossed for your + volunteer daffs Farway. I know they're common and cheap but I do love daffs. I like them in the new year now, then tulips later on. Mind you I did used to have daffs and tulips together in big vases but they don't appear at the same time now....
The 2 potted roses - I put a pic of them on here - I bought a few months ago were dear (I thought), but I paid it cos they're pretty and fragrant. If they'd been cheaper I'd have bought a dozen. I don't really have a frame of reference for proper gardening items, I've mostly just bought bags of bulbs from Lidl (V good, especially the daffs) and the odd sad something from various supermarkets when they're reduced.
It's been very mild here overnight, it's 9'c out there now. Are you allowed to say you like it but that it's a bit wrong really? Proper windy today say the met office so I've got a wash on. Hopefully they've sobered up and it'll be right this time!
Speaking of Devonian drunkards, any more heard from Wooly?
Edit - where abouts are you 2p? Is weather forecast to be better today?I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.1 -
It's back to hurricane winds [not quite that] with horizontal rain this morning, it's just awful out there, hoping it improves because I have to go out to a volunteer meeting, and daff shoot check
, this afternoon
I have tulips in a large tub, not many, I then bought them from somewhere like £ land, but surprisingly they have carried on year after year, the spot must suit them, so I leave them alone except for B, F & bone in Spring with the daffsYBE, will you attempt some cuttings from your posh & expensive roses? If you haven't pruned yet, or maybe next time, always worth a go I reckon, especially given the cost and free makes them look & smell even betterGood news as well, my two new amaryllis, potted on 23 Dec, have green shoots this morning, hopefully flower in MarchMy Cape Primrose leaf cuttings are slowly growing on the window sill, had to give them a precautionary anti everything spray this morning because I noticed some light blotches on the leaves, I can't see any insects but with my eyes it would have to be puppy size or red & white striped for me to spot itPS, nothing heard from Wooly, but given the weather he may be under a few fathoms of water by nowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1 -
Puppy sized or red and white striped!
Cuttings are in the back of my mind to attempt next year. I'll get them planted this year and then when they're settled and happy I'll see if I can get some off them. (What I was thinking of doing is nipping a wee bit off next-door-but-one's rose - the one that's higher than my fence and covered in bindweed. If that comes good I'll have a go at mine!)
Fingers crossed for your amaryllis, I think they're pure lovely. My bulbs have nothing left to do now but flower. Doesn't seem to be as many shoots as there were bulbs planted. I hope the squirrels all get dicky tummys.....
I'm giving up on the met office app. It said it'd be blowing a hoolie and lowering humidity so I put my washing out. It's out there now hanging like a load of dead things and it's forecasting drizzle then rain from about 11. Swines.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.0
