twopenny said:You're such a good lad to keep going Woolsery!Ah, but I've not had dental treatment like you and I'm on a tight rein with a lot to do before the weather breaks down. I wish I could get more done, as jobs are piling-up. Clearing the uncut stuff in the wood shed is essential before we heft this coming winter's logs into it....and they're already a month behind. Thanks for reminding me about the Perseids. I might not make it onto the moor, but we are pretty dark here anyway on our small valley side.

Following in everyone's path, lolling around and avoiding the daytime heatI'll pop out later and turn the hose on my wilting pot plants out the back, it's too hot right nowDue to heat & gout, I was up last night and looked for meteors out of the window but too bright with the moonNo photos, tried to take picture of Castor Oil plant spikey flower, but my gnarled gouty claws make camera holding impossible right nowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

30°c now at 8pm!
The house 28 and no breeze.
The smaller lavenders are showing signs of stress too so been watering as best I can. Midges biting.
Even the rampant erigenon is starting to crisp.
Meteors to the left of the plough but theres a short window before the moon rises if you can get in a hollow.
Does this heat make the gout worse farway? Appauling time to get it with the watering.
I took photos but far too hot to sit inside and post them.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Hmmm.... Reached a nice mid 20's here in the sun yesterday after the morning mist had burned off (at about 11.00), but the sea haar was rolling back in at six, just as the barbecue was getting up to temperature. 15C by the time we were ready to eat!
After that it was a really calm, quiet night, with the mist deadening all the ambient white noise that we are used to, leaving only the sound of the trees dripping from all the moisture in the air.
This morning looks quite autumnal with the hedges covered in misty spider webs.

Anyone for a challenge ?
Fond farewells as Lea Gardens goes on the market | Shetland News (shetnews.co.uk)
It was amazing even when I went, more than a decade ago. Certainly proved that trees will grow on Shetland, although I'd have thought the 40 foot high sycamores growing near Tingwall suggested that.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing4 -
I long for 20°!
A breeze came up at 8am so I went out with the securars and dead headed the lavenders and a few others.
By 10 the sweat was dripping in my eyes and too hot to move.
I'd love those gardens Ras, recently there was another near london i think, where it had been a personal creation and lady needed to retire. Can only hope that the new caretakers are as dedicated.
Apodemus you bring to mind that if we do get some rain tomorrow it could become misty and give some respite.
I checked my posts last night and we've had no rain, only once since May.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Appauling time to get it with the watering.Better news today though, the pills are working and although my little finger is still swollen, nearly normal service has been resumedWith my hands nearly normal, I finally picked my Thorn Free blackberries early this morning before the sun got them, decided to get on with it because there is a chance of thunderstorms tomorrow which will then turn them mouldy in a few secondsAnd I've watered the pots at the front, which were just starting to show stress despite being in large pots with plenty of soilMy tomatoes are coming along nicely, even those outside, now just waiting for the blight to arrive with the thunderMy Castor Oil plants, ricinus, are looking impressive as I intended, and loving this heat, certainly one I'll grow again, even had a neighbour who has minimal interest in gardening asking what they were. The flower heads are not as red as I'd hoped for, but there seems to be different depth of colour among them, so can't be helped.Wasps love the flowers, typical really, I know wasps don't make honey, but if they did, I'm sure it would contain a deadly poison like ricinManaged to get the gouty claws to work the camera this morning, here's the Ricinus

Sadly, I suspect you are still some way off the "mists and mellow fruitfulness" time of year and any rain is more likely to be of the thunderstorm and flash-flooding type.1 -
There is a 50% (and dropping) chance of rain tomorrow but they've promised this before.Today there is a cool breeze remaining and temps a mild 27C. So nice to be feeling 'normal' and not sitting perspiring. Sadly being Sunday in August it's not worth going out and fighting the crowds but enjoying just being comfortable for the mo.This is the effect on my newly made garden
Raspberries?
My precious Greengage planted 2yrs ago. I'm hoping that the roots are damp enough that it will regenerate but it is just hope. Too hot to pull the grass out.And this is how it was at the start of the summer.

Candytuft
Foxglove - would the darn thing seed where I wanted it!
There were some bright Love in the Mist too in the veg garden but they've gone to seed now.Farway glad it's a tad better, well quite a bit judging by that photo. I've not seen one of those before. And yes, I know about the drinking thing though I used tea because I can drink more of that than water but the effect is the sameI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
