Less, the spiky one looks like a mizuna. The Tokyo Bekana isn't what I have, but the colour's the same. This year, in the warmer months, I'm trying purslane. I'm finding bits I've nibbled very bland, but apparently it's full of nutrients. 😊 More good fatty acids than fish, allegedly. Once it sets seed, I'll probably find it coming up everywhere, but it's easy to recognise and pull-up if we're oversupplied.
We had such a battering by the wind yesterday, our almost-famous white clematis-flowered aquilegia is in danger of collapsing. I'll get a hoop around it today. Others will be the usual random selection. Like the hellebores, they perpetuate themselves now, but I'd like to introduce some yellow or orange genes.😉
It looks as if Friday and the weekend will be calmer, allowing us finally to tackle the neglected borders. 🤔The strong, east wind continues today, though, so I'm off to dig extra composted bark and manure into the new front border at my walking friend's house. We intend to visit some GCs for plants, but I don't want to be indoors or in a car with folks until I'm sure this lurgy is history. It's still lurking around at night. 😕 Luckily, we haven't been required for GS duties for 2 whole weeks.🌝
As promised, here are the cowslips; another self-perpetuating plant here:
The warning applies equally to essential food items, seeds, batteries and, of course, toilet paper! 🤣

Another one with blue sky & sunshine but a bitter wind blowing.
If only. No Llamas were hurt during this
Been out watering already, more just in case than strictly necessary

Wondrous! The vine weevil being run through is epic! 🤩 Careful with all those England flags and the um….indigenous audience. I can spot a possible Welsh hat and I realise the Bradford contingent are just out of shot, but you can't be too careful these days. 😉

Happy St. George’s day. Our weekend in the lakes was sun filled and we enjoyed a walk from Ambleside first up to the waterfall. Then breakfast at The force cafe then across to Ryder water and caves, through to grassmere. We spotted llamas but I didn’t get a pic. I will add a couple of pics from my phone.

I've just dug up a few bits and taken them to my niece. About to head out for a walk , hoping the wind has dropped. It's been bitter cold.
Dusty beat me to the photo of aquilegia mine was in bud a couple of days ago hoping they are out soon.

Yes, Red Mizuna was what it should have been, but it seemed far too robust cf. any pics I could find (but I've not grown mizuna apart from once several years ago…).
I have another thing the same colour as the Bekana, no wavy edges, but have been puzzling as to what that was myself😫 [Have just checked my notes and I think it must have come from own saved seed of "Bekana" which prob explains things!] The thing you showed as komatsuna a while back looked like it to me - tatsoi should have thicker, somewhat crinkled leaves, and a flattish rosette - but the "Red Tatsoi" I've grown this spring looks almost indistinguishable from the Red Pak Choi grown at the same time…
Am looking forward to seeing what fun hybrids I might get next season as I will be saving as much of own seed (of everything!) as possible😁

Show off Farway! 😉 love the cartoon.. Made me chuckle.
Thanks Middlewife. It seems a long time from this end but glad everything is going smoothly.
Dusty, glad you and Mrs D are getting better. Fabulous shot oftthe cowslip and rain drops. I'm wondering if Bluey is getting better or worse. Is silence a good thing?
Wort that's a busy social life you have. Enjoy it.
Less is your garden big? That's a lot of plants to grow!
Nothing gardening to report. There was a fragrant clematis rampaging over the arch to a tea garden. The flowers wild and tame are doing magnificently and it's glorious driving around.
Did I say I met another gardener yesterday while walking. She introduced me to all sorts but the one I remember was a Hemlock called Water Dropwort. Wonderful name. Just don't eat it 😵💫
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
