Lol not early or late I just woke up at silly o'clock for some reason, probably a firework, and decided to celebrate new beginnings with a maple and walnut pastry to celebrate a new start 😁
Then messaged a few friends in America 🤠 and confuse them with West country greetings.
Happy New year to all who post and lurk 🎉🎇🍾
Time to make new mistakes and repeat the old.
May your gardens flourish!
I have tomatoes for the NY day!
Bright and up to 3c, slightly north chilly wind.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

2p that was the time I was climbing into bed 😂 a wonderful night spent with family.
Another chilly day it looks brighter though, I will see where the day takes me.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -

I hope the heating gets fixed at work. Sounds like an old store, which is what DD2 has, when she's working. She's only doing an odd day or night at present, while DGS is still small.
The new year is kicking off well, so far. Firstly, I was wrong about the lack of very early morning dog noises from the field across the way. While there was an altercation over repeated aggression, the reason the dogs are gone is more serious, and therefore, I'm not giving details.
However, they won't be seen or heard again.
Secondly, our other neighbour with the throne has decided he wants privacy when seated there. Yesterday, some trees were planted in line with it. I'm all in favour of trees.
It's also saved us from planting trees on our side!
Not too bad a day out there. We might hit 7c, and it's sunny, despite the red dawn. Back to long johns tomorrow, though!

twopenny said:Beautiful! Happy New Year to everyone 🙂🍾🎇🎉I've been meaning to take a pic for the past few days, since first spotted, only remembered yesterday as gloaming was descending, hence the slightly odd colouring (the leaves are just green really
). Annoying, as it was the first proper sunny day for ages, would have looked at its best earlier..This morning not so good, drizzle in nearby forest, attempting to wash away faint traces of snow which must have fallen overnight at the high points of our walk, turning to rain, but drying up by the end of our morning peramble...Was about to drag myself outside to do something (maybe cut some new bean poles...), but sudden noise of precipitation blowing hard against upstairs veluxes is rather offputting
Instead, here is a mystery object (there were several of them), spotted on our morning walk, as a New Year's Day puzzle; and I can perhaps not feel guilty at staying inside during daylight hours and doing my seed order instead

Well that's lovely Less, nice to see wildlife encouragement happening [ all over it seems]I have tulips bought on a whim that need planting, probably tomorrow, hopefully won't be dug up]Very impresssed with your continued tomatoes 2p, that's a genuine feat!Lovely sky Dusty, is it a warning? shame about the dogs but really, the owner...Cold, dry here, perfect viewing programmes weather. Probably good outside weather too but not today, I doubt I'm even going to make it to getting dressed stage.Happy new wotsits to all and sundry...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8

Well I wish I'd decided the same Taff 😕
Was quite happy mooching about house jobs and relaxing but decided I'd go for a New Year's walk. Its bitter, damp and the sun went.
The sea is wild and I'm just frozen!🥶 Stupid idea.
Loads of massive cars that can't pass on our tiny roads. What are people thinking apart from ' look at me '. It doesn't bode well for the summer. All the locals parking in the road rather than giving money to Horizon who have taken over the private car park
Yup, I bought a bunch of daffodils yesterday. Couldn't resist and some more tete a tete which I promised myself I wouldn't but I thought they might come on early. Such is the need for signs of spring.
So it's settling down in the warm with a pot of tea and mince pie. Yes they had supplies again and on offer so what can you do 😉
Less is that some sort of feeding station? So only small birds can get in.
Been feeding my blackbird and robins on mealworms as a treat. Looks like I might have to continue 😵💫

Hope you don't mind me butting in, I'm a long time lurker!
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year, you all keep me entertained on this thread and have given me lots of tips and ideas for the garden.
Keep it up!

Awe nice of you to say Camelot 😊
You mean there's entertainment among all the grumbling as well as some gardening? That's good to know.
Hope you're garden grows green and floriferous!
Hmm that challenged the Chinese/American spell checker...I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

That looks like a Dormouse nesting box, angled to keep out the rain. I wouldn't mind a few of those; they look easier than hedgehog boxes.
I'm surprised how cold you found your weather yesterday, 2p. It wasn't too bad here; just a shower, or maybe two. I didn't need to wear a jacket, and there was a nice, calm hour in the afternoon for cutting-up wood.to form the next deep bed. I'm extra keen this year to grow as many edibles as possible, now the gubmint is hinting about... err....'supply chain issues.'
A Happy and entertaining New Year to you too, Camelot.
Lurk freely, and bring along some mates, if you like. It's uplifting, if somewhat unlikely, to think that there might be dozens like you, reading all this nonsense!
We're just a motley collection of gardeners, nattering as if we were in the pub, back in those heady days when we could afford to visit the local.
Nothing much to report this morning. We have a yellow warning for the usual Arctic Blast, but it's been raining here, and we're promised 4c in the hours ahead. Maybe another day digging and sieving in the polytunnel, then.Saturday into Sunday looks worse, with -4c supposedly on the cards. I may have to go and lag the boiler condensate pipe properly. It's been there 10 years, but one of those jobs which never quite makes it to the top of the list.
This month's copy of The Garden has several bits in it about Rosemoor, reminding me walking friend and I haven't seen the sculpture display properly yet. Mrs Dusty would also like to visit, though she's keener on the planting aspects, with an eye to what looks good in winter. Although some of you were very kind about our partly dead-looking border, anything that appears cleverly contrived here, is usually a happy accident. Take what we call The Secret Garden; it was just planned as a buffer against chilly east winds cutting across the top field. We put down grass and plonked some robust trees/shrubs in and around it. A few days ago, I got one of those winter photos that actually look quite nice, standing in the garden and shooting through there towards the field:
If being interviewed by someone doing a garden feature, I could probably say something like,” Mrs Dusty and I designed the Secret Garden as a transition zone between the rough, species-rich grassland, and the more formally structured main borders.” In reality, it's a windbreak, and somewhere to put big shrubs!
