Farway said:The proposed boundary changes sound intriguing Dusty, shame there are not Triffids, a clump of those would do welltwopenny said:Dusty, how about some Gunera? sp.
Or some starved Wood Sedge, ideal environment and protected so mustn't be interfered with 😉I've heard Triffids are untrainable, as well as almost unobtainable, and Starved Wood Sedge might result in a rash of conservationists.
Anyway, it looks too wussy. The Gunnera would do at a push, but it dies down in winter, leaving me exposed to the end window of Mr C's caravan, nicely positioned to look over our private wild area. (Not for much longer, mind!
)I considered Scotch Thistle, but I'm not that nasty, or daft. Those things self seed for decades, and the prevailing wind goes our way.
It's more logical than inventive. Being sensible for a moment, Mr C's bindweed is dealt with close to source when spotted, but a wide strip it cannot cross unseen would be useful. So, I'm thinking of planting Cotoneaster lacteus, making lots of nice berries for the birds, and staying green. Maybe a few hawthorns too. Strangely, I already seem to have these plants available, and I'd quite like a Philadelphus down there too.wort said:Oo Dusty I like your inventive idea 😉
My F1 saved tomato seed gave pretty good results, 2p. I don't think you'll be risking much using yours.
Lovely sunset tonight, but we have a warning for wind, so Santa will have to watch out. It's brass monkeys, but the strong easterly will at least keep frost at bay.
Glad the show was good, wort. There are some fantastic ones about, with brilliant effects. We used to go a lot in the old days, when we could simply walk home through the park afterwards. I miss that about city living, but not much else!If I remember, I'll see what our hazels are doing tomorrow. Don't think they'll be as advanced as yours, 2p.Well, GCs and parents on the way, so I must sign off for now. Might pop in tomorrow if I need some quiet time in the office. As a local farmer said to me today, “Seeing the grandchildren is nice, but what I really look forward to, is dozing-off in front of the fire after the big dinner!”
Of course, he'll be out all morning tending the animals, same as usual.
Christmas good wishes to everyone, especially absent friends, and anyone out there who reads this thread silently. As we say around here, “Tis a proper job!”

Thaks for that p, it's been a long time since I saw a Tom and Jerry
I'd forgotten how good the soundeffects were on the older ones Not much to report, save hope you all stay intact for fesitivites or otherwsie, have a nice time doing what you like doing...weather is cold and a stiff wind, but as I'm typing I can hear the convoy of cars blasting their christmas music out, quite enjoyable

Thanks for the Tom+Jerry vid 2p, it did make me smile
and the Lamb’s Tails 😍
Im only having a quick go while himself is in the shower. He’s back on his feet now, literally, and the lad is out of hospital 👏🏻 with a collection of drugs you could start a small pharmacy with 😳 Me and a wee J.Walker are watching Carols from Kings (my favourite) ☺️
It was a half day at work and surprisingly the body count was 0, maimings 0, sarcastic remarks a coupla dozen. Win!Saw this on my way in. I think it’s a new sunrise, well I don’t think I’ve seen one like it before -
It was genuinely mesmerising. Round the corner it looked like this -
May everyone have a peaceful time of it, or raucous merriment, whichever suits 😊Honesty is the best poverty.8 -
Hope you're all tucking into a feast of your liking 😊
Just thought I'd say 'MADE IT'!!!
Tomatoes for lunch, home grown for Christmas day
Marks on the chopping board are the blackberry and apple jam and have home grown pots and tender kale.
Haven't managed to grow a cow yet 😉 but it would only be a pet if I did.
Sun shining but howling north wind. Dropped a bit so I poked my nose out the door to see if I could get on with the day I planned but still artic

Well done on the tomatoes! We ate the last of mine (ripened indoors for several weeks) earlier this week...Icy here too, but at least sunny
And here's something unexpected I spotted this morning, outside on a last-minute dash for Xmas greenery, just opening...
Happy Christmas all!7 -
Morning all, and happy Boxing Day

I hope everyone had a good one? Woohoo on your toms making it 2p, and yay for a Christmas daisy Day-sy Less
We're going away for a bit so I'll not be posting but I'll be reading along
Oh and wm is fine - I text her Merry Christmas yesterday and she replied (with a pic of the brilliant presents her kids bought her
)
We're still thinking of you @pink_poppy and @ArbitraryRandom
Merry Christmas you marvellous heathens, and may 2026 hold everything your hearts desire

Well done, 2p with your Christmas tomatoes.
I peaked too early.
Tortoise & Hare come to mind. (Much nicer than Burke and Hare!
)
Funny you should mention coos. As I gazed out at that Arctic blast in the late afternoon, I spotted cattle in our imperfect view. It's pretty unusual to see them in the fields at this time of year.twopenny said:Haven't managed to grow a cow yet 😉 but it would only be a pet if I did.

Dartmoor was being upstaged by a bank of cloud, but whether that was responsible for a lack of frost overnight I'm not sure. Being shot of that wind today's good, but I see we won't go above about 3c, so will we notice?
I had a look, and our hazel catkins are nowhere close to the stage yours are at over on the Costa del Bristol Channel.
Now, having seen Less's post, I'll have to look for daisies. I reckon I'll have more luck there.
Christmas was pretty chilled here, though the children got up at silly o'clock, and giving them lightsabres was probably not the best idea their parents have had. By afternoon, with dinner behind us, and steam let off, things were calmer:
Hope you all had a good one too.

We had a new visitor to the feeder last night, who didn't use the approved manner of entry.
I think I know, but can you guess what it was?

That's a cute picture Dusty 😊
And I like the cow ones, the poles look good in it too.
Aw daisies already oop North Less. Hope that's good news for the temperatures.
Sunrises with an early bird look lovely and warm too.
Sheesh it's colder here today than yesterday with blanket cloud and I can't get warm even with the heating on so thinking of mowing the front lawn while it's dry.
See how the bits are after and maybe cut some turf. I still want more veg plot. It means the garden will look odd but these colder winters make me appreciate home grown veg. That and the awful stuff the supermarkets are selling.
