Oh Dusty ,what a shame ,Mrs Dusty must have been proper upset.
YBE maybe take some of KitKat Katie’s biscuits for the poorly fellas wife. I’m sure she will appreciate you going to see her. Lovely sunrise photo.
Farway I know just the roses you mean we have them at work. Good photo though.
Weather here is blue sky ,got back from Lidl and put the washer on. The veg was 5 p, so the carrots are now soup, I’ve prepped roast potatoes and sprouts for a chicken dinner , with a parsnip on the side.Cleaned through, I won’t get much chance now , as I’m at work the next 3 days. Then Dd bought tickets to a show in the City next week, I’m looking forward to seeing that.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -

Himself is improving incrementally, a couple of the others are out of hospital and alright, but the properly poorly lad is still in intensive care God love him. I'm going over to see his wife later cos she's there on her own. They're not English, they come from that land out East where we've been getting the proper grafters from these last years, and she hasn't made many friends.
Work has been agony - Lloyds bank has been down for 2 days and people turned into nasty aggressive swearing threatening rabid animals.Compostybag Carparkii is hanging on in there.Good news re Himself, and that's lovely of you to support the still poorly lad's wife. Sounds like they're the kind of err...incomers... we need.
As for the bank thing, people are still not getting it. Part of the new normal is cyber warfare and criminality. Even the gubmint depts can't 'stay safe,' yet they're demanding we all go on their lovely big database. I won't say any more....
It looks like Compostbag carparkii has suffered in the frost, but even if nothing's done, maybe its roots will be OK for a return in the spring.
I love the colour of that wee rose, Farway, and as 2p says, its performance may yet defy its price.

Physics has never been her strong point. The big mystery is where a particular long, glass icicle went. It's about 15cm in length, and she remembers placing it on the tree, but we didn't pick up any remains, and it's not among the intact decorations we rescued. Seems to have slipped into another dimension.
Speaking of other dimensions, I came home to a happy surprise yesterday. A card had arrived from someone I thought had passed to 'the other side.'
Weirdly, I'd just visited their home town; somewhere I haven't been for 5 years or more. We'd had a late lunch there in the upmarket chippy, among several tables occupied by young people from the local comp, celebrating the end of term. Observing these youngsters, in their uniforms, I couldn't help thinking how similar they looked to us at the same age, back in the 60s. Take away the mobile phones, and it could have been 1966....except they were probably better behaved than we'd been!
It made me think....
Yesterday, right plant, right place. Today wrong plants, wrong place but they don't care.
The bulbs of Nerines, and Erigeron glaucus, happily bathing. They're supposed to like dry conditions. Much of the water had drained away by the time I took the photo. They've been doing this for many years.OT: Mostly sunny yesterday, with the odd shower. Still bright this morning with a chilly feel. More rain tonight. No gardening....collecting 'specially ordered slow-grown organic chickens for the big day!Digital currency + social credit score + AI surveillance = lockdown.

Sheesh it's cold here 🥶
Thought we'd have a frost but, no. Just everything feels cold that you touch indoors despite the heating.
It's zero out there with no wind so far.
Bluey, glad he's on the mend even if it is slow. Must be poorly as you haven't got around to complaining about him yet 😉
Good of you to support the woman on her own. It only takes a little to help her like going for a coffee or taking stuff in to take the small stuff off the mind.
And talking about support, how's PN? Still with you?
Farway that's darn clever 🙂 You're getting so good at this I wonder if we can believe any pictures you post?
Glad Mrs Ds all right. As long as it wasn't her knees giving way.
Annoying that your Nerines will grow anywhere. I've tried in 2 gardens and I can't get them to do so.
Wort you still shopping? Getting ready for a big feast or just planning for a Christmas lockdown?
Sales will be on this time next week 😉
First picking of Kale yesterday. They are dwarf ones but when you plant the seeds you've no guarantee of that.
So note to self. Plant more next year.
In fact, that's not so far away. 8 weeks or so. It's nearly the turn of the year thank goodness.
Was going to do outdoor stuff today because sun's out but friend wants to go for coffee so will be 'forced' to sit on a warm sofa with cakes.
Besides the rest will probably wait. I don't fancy the garage or beach, it's far too cold! ☃️
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Sunny again, with the standard blue sky.I think I may still have a touch of 2P lurgy, coughing a bit, some shivers, and slept in, but feel generally OK so not too concerned about next week.Dustyevsky said:I love the colour of that wee rose, Farway, and as 2p says, its performance may yet defy its price.

Yesterday, right plant, right place. Today wrong plants, wrong place but they don't care. The bulbs of Nerines, and Erigeron glaucus, happily bathing. They're supposed to like dry conditions. Much of the water had drained away by the time I took the photo. They've been doing this for many years. It was the colour of the rose that attracted me, the others were bog standard red or baby pink, this one stood out from the crowdThe AI trout, hopefully safe from AI herons. I have seen the real trout in the river Test that flows through Mottisfont Abbey, looking just like the AI ones, and they seem Heron proof, at least in that areaThe tale of the long glass icicle, sounds a bit like tales from A & E, or the Little Britain skit when MP explaining how all his clothes fell off when he slipped on a glace cherry in a men's toilet
I won't add link, but search on Sir Norman Fry if interested. The Nerines, I join 2P and add as another one of my failures, not tried drowning them thoughNow, Ta ra, talking of Erigeron, I have some good news. After repeated failures in getting the "easy to grow "seed to grow I bought a plant from Morries in the summer. Now the surrounding plants have died down with winter, this Erigeron is still alive
If sun keeps out I'll try for a pic later, the big unknown is, has it seeded & will they grow? When an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray7 -

You did mention it fell on a sofa...
BTW, meant to say that I particularly liked your photo of rain-soaked garden, proving that not all winter gardens have to be either miraculously full of sunshine and flowers (as in GWs recent "Winter" specials), or mostly dull muddy patches, dotted with dead stalks, and frost-and vermin-bitten decaying veg...(mine, well, at least on dank days)...Speedy recovery wishes to all and sundry suffering with lurgy of varying severity...

2 p not me shopping, it’s been boxed off since November, wrapped and all. Only been lidl for cheap veg to provide me during January.
Good luck with Erigeron, mine is still green it seeds all over in my garden but usually dies back in the cold weather.
Off to another shift at the mad house today. I hope everyone else gets some peace.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Morning all, on Winter solstice
Wort how was door hosting? Sounds like good fun if the people are in good form and you've good warm layers on you
Only a few days to go and then will you get some decent time off?
I really like your easycare garden 2p, makes me wish I'd done more with my steps when we had the wall built *sigh* There's something about roundy steps that are very pleasing
Posh Friend went home the night himself came back, she's too fragile to be round sickness (she's a bit older than me). She was talking about going home for Christmas anyway so it was about it's time.
Gawd Dusty, MrsD must've been beside herself - my stomach shrank just reading it
I predict you'll find the missing icicle, in March, in the garden, with one or more guilty looking cats
Is DD's new house all sorted in time for Christmas then? Will they be doing Christmas or a mix of both religions..?
Farway your
version of my crick is about right actually! There's a great big - or 2 medium big - gunnerers (sp?) that come up along the path but apart from that you're about there
Fingers crossed your rose survives for it's a lovely colour. How's the hyacinth? And the possible lurgy..?
Less I hope Santa brings you a new camera for Christmas, or you at least get plenty of time off over Christmas to take lots of pics
Himself is doing better, thanks folks, he had some chicken soup yesterday. Only a mugful but he finished it. I think he's turned a corner cos he was complaining last night that he's bored up there. I've followed Cissie's instructions to the letter - don't you go anywhere near him. When you come in from work you're to stand at the foot of your stairs, and if you can't hear him snoring shout up "are you living or dead up there?" Lucky our banister has a flat top so I can sit books and Puke-o-zade orangey electrolyte drinks on it from half way up the stairs. He'll live. The Polish lad is still in a bad way but he's plateaued, so I spose that's something. 'Polly' 's mum was coming over last night so at least she has her own people round her now.
OT mild and murky out there, which is an improvement on yesterday when it was chilly and murky out there. The mist hung round 'til gone lunchtime - the too large overcoat slung over the hills was a good description
It's to be misty all day today, possibly, 'til it rains about dinner time, perhaps. 8' currently, Feels Like is 7'c, they say. They could be right. Honesty is the best poverty.5 -
Rained overnight, not so nice for those camped out down Stonehenge, doubt there was much sun to rise, it's just clearing up now.Good to hear the flu is also clearing, and the Polish lad may be over the worst. What a Christmas, one to remember for all the wrong reasons, but a good recovery would be a great present to have.Himself, like kids, you know they are better once the whinging starts up again
My half-baked lurgy can't make up its mind, a restless night last night, but did get to listen to all the Christmas No 1s of the 50 & 60s
My hyacinth is cracking on, not full flowers yet, but the scent has started if I poke my hooter in itAnd I'd also like to report the neglected Christmas cactus has buds on it, will it live up to it's name?Amaryllis, still just leaves so far
I've got two GW specials to catch up on, but my garden fits the muddy patch with dead stalks description. I seem to have avoided the vermin this year, but I suspect that is down to good crops of everything elsewhere, so their snouts were turned up at my paltry offerings.LessImpecunious said:BTW, meant to say that I particularly liked your photo of rain-soaked garden, proving that not all winter gardens have to be either miraculously full of sunshine and flowers (as in GWs recent "Winter" specials), or mostly dull muddy patches, dotted with dead stalks, and frost-and vermin-bitten decaying veg...(mine, well, at least on dank days)...Now the Erigiwahtsit, still going, and fingers crossed it settles in and thrives, it's got this farSpot the nasturtium photo bombing

What a beautiful sunset 2p, made me quite warm looking at it..luckily because it's been so cold and not even minus temps, just feels freezing. .we don't get Christmas for months thnks to having no tv proper , we do computer related gubbins so don't see ads, and neither of us really read the news seeing as we could probably predict the next scaremonger or politician lie etc...Not like my parents who would argue with the tv and I always think they were far more informed and intelligent than I am, but I just can't do with the hassle anymore, it's not news like it used to be, it's a performance. And you still have flowers in your pots! amazing! That's a nice set of steps there too and the slightly overgrown not too spick and span looks nice.I did chuckle at your cardiblackies Dusty, I have dome similar with owls and boiler flues...sorry about the ornaments mrs Dusty lost, but you won't notice anyway
I did chuckle at that...Yes, your garden looks a lot more passable than my disaster too.greenbee you are destined to reap smell the whirlwind it seems..but at least yours is done now.ybe, how awful for all of them, glad himself is better, well done for following Cissie's instructions and for visiting that poor woman on her own, glad she's got amily now and he's plateaud, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for him..we used to say more meat on a chickens lip, but work sounds like fun! err...it doesn't, that's my attmept to cheer you up. That's a full on muddy crick too, but it is nice to have unless it floods I'm assuming? I think I'd like one of those...your sunrise and 2ps sunset are like the fourth dimension got together with the fifth...good to see compostybag carparkii is still going strong.I should have taken note of the postbox warning, had to drive around a bit yesterday to find one that wasn't wrapped in black plastic...but at least you have a doomed rose to nurture for a little bit Farway
And there's some skillz now with AI, I reckon you could get yourself a part time job altering photos for people who want great uncle stan and his wine habit removed from wedding photos etc...don't go looking too much at the erigeron, it might turn it's toes up, just ignore it, and pretend like you don't care..Nastrutiums too It truly is a year of weirdness...wort, you're not at a version of costco are you? I do feel sorry for them, it must be freezing standing around like that.Less, no, my garden is also of the second variety...I may or may venture into the garden today to lay some weed fabric and move some stones, because it's one of those things that you can't do one thing without another one needs doing first, so there are about five steps to do before I can clean the cat poo form one of the beds and have somewhere to put it [ in the bottom of another raised bed...] weather is damp and unfriendly...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -
Well we've made it! Shortest day of the year, on the up from here 😉
Soon be time to get the seeds in pots and complain about compost.
I notice Monty mixes bagged with home made compost without being critical.
Just 1c climbed to 3c today.
Gloomy but so far not raining.
That's great Farway 🙂 Very healthy and buds which means self seeding late Spring. You'll soon be complaining about there being too much of it 😄
Sorry your lurg is still hanging around. I get the odd regression when I think it's back then goes again. As long as you have the appetite for a good meal on the day then that should set you up for a while.
Wort for shopping I meant Lidl and such. Hope you survive the mayhem 😄 are you wearing your Christmas jumper to work?
I had to ask which way the 6.5ft elf went in Tesco!
Dusty, they featured Rosemore on GW. Thought of you.
You're doing so much outside compared to the rest of us I can't remember which bit came last!
Bluey that's good news on all fronts. Your OH making grumpy noises and the polish lass having her mum. Then posh neighbour going home. You done well girl 😄
Hopefully that karma will show up for you next year. You can fiddle with your steps in spring when everything is more positive.
Less will you be out on the hills for some more fabulous scenery over the hols? I'm hoping for good weather so I can go out in peace on the day.
Would like to go out today but just missed a serious accident with a massive range rover going too fast as I had to pull out of a junction blind because of a massive van on the corner, then people stepping out into the road without looking. Everyone wizziing around trying to fullfil the supermarket Christmas dreams.
Too dull out there for any garden photos so have a Christmas one instead. Bought from a craft fair years ago. Two of my favourite things. Bears and Christmas pudding 😄
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
