Farway, I missed your post, it takes me that long to type on my phone. Did you just put the figs in a jug of plain water and let them get on with it??'A watched potato will never chit'...3

Did you just put the figs in a jug of plain water and let them get on with it??Yes, exactly that, I changed the water now & then just because I thought I should not because it was going green / stagnantI saw it on You Tube and couldn't really believe it was so easy, but it isMine are in a jam jar but only 'cos that fits on the kitchen window sill easilyAll the cuttings, which were only the prunings of my fig, have taken without any failuresThe cuttings were dormant when I took them but maybe this time of year with sap flowing could be different result but worth a try I'd think

Thanks for the suggestions, folks 😃
Hopefully the weather will have improved by tomorrow (it's still raining cats and dogs here, although the wind which - like at Farway's, was hideous overnight - has dropped), so we can get out to look in a couple of plant nurseries/independent garden centres.....Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Weather's still horrible here.
I've done little, except plant/harvest salad greens and send off an order to Chiltern Seeds.
I find them expensive, but I like their catalogue and they have a few things others don't. One of them, the Past-Their-Sell-by Shrub and Tree Mix, is a bit like a visit to Wisley and a dozen open gardens, all without leaving your chair!

I'm enjoying the pictures and ideas but little to add myself. I finally planted veg seeds, they must take their chance this year but at least I have radish. I dropped the packet and they're coming up like cress!
Mum had a 6 week check up on a skin graft this week. The hospital rang to say they would come to see her at home and not to attend hospital. It seems the three main hospitals are closed to all except emergencies again. Oh to be back in Devon where people don't know how lucky they are. But then I'd miss watching big bird fishingLove living in a village in the country side4 -
Talking of big birds, we had an eagle fly overhead yesterday. Excuse the rubbish pic, it was getting mobbed by crows, you can see one to the left of the eagle for scale.
Hope your mum is doing okay, in_my_wellies. What big bird are you watching??
Thanks for that, Farway, it sounds pretty straightforward. I remember as a child I used to put carrot tops in a saucer of water to see if they would grow, I think I must have seen it suggested somewhere. I never got to see if it worked because my mum would always throw them out 🙄'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
pink-poppy - That's better than any of my pictures. It does show the scale. I saw a golden eagle about 40 years ago sitting on a road/driveway behind Crathie Kirk at Balmoral as we walked round the corner. Just sat there for a few moments. We always hoped it was just tucking into lunch and not injured as it was just such an unexpected place to see one.
I live next to a reservoir and am watching an osprey. First time I've seen one here and so far it's attracted no interest - hoping it stays that way.
Another day of rain from dawn till dusk here so nothing done outside but the farmer has been along and trimmed slashed the blackberry hedge which I'm pleased about, saves me a day - took him 10 minutes and all cleared away!Love living in a village in the country side4 -
I too am enjoying the chats and pics, ty guys from us lurkers 🤗🐈Just my opinion, no offence 🐈6

It was you that started this thread, Black_Cat2, I would love you to post an update.
Wow to the osprey, in_my_wellies, I bet that is just stunning to watch. (Green)fingers crossed you have it to yourself for a while longer.'A watched potato will never chit'...3 -
Still raining. windy and cold, I even squelched when walking on paving slabs and it's still chucking it down.Supposed to be dry tomorrow. Gardening so far behind I may have to don wellies and just get on with planting what's on the staging so that I can so sow seeds in pots. Such a long way behind. And then rain is predicted againJust noticed that my current bush trained against a fence has grown higher than my dwarf apple tree! If that little trick works it will be great in a small garden, leaves are dense and there are/were some currants. I moved the others through lack of growth, should have left them, In fact the growth on a lot of things is astounding.Have to chuckle that to get some plants and cover the fences where there was nothing I've sneaked in all sorts of things and forgotten about them. There's a vigourous clematis climbing through the rose - no idea what, so a nice surprise in this year that's lacked nice surprises. I put a few more in and can't remember where or if the slugs have got them.I like some of the garden to be unpredictableNo eagles or Ospreys here, they'd have been blown to Wales if they tried to fly in this. Even the gulls have taken cover from rain and wind. Only some skinny sodden and bedraggled blackbirds that I've put extra food out for to keep them warm.Enjoying the pictures too.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
