Awful weather - typical Brits talk

On the subject of Salvias - I have a "hot lips" and also a purple one both from cuttings from my neighbour - I took lots of cuttings last year and gave them all away but they were super easy to do.
The two plants I have have survived on neglect if I am honest - admittedly I placed them in sunny spots through the summer and then left them there - they survived in that spot last winter - I then lopped then back by about two thirds in March/ April time (can't quite recall) and they grew like topsy.
I decided against putting them in the ground as I think they can get a bit leggy so they're in "good" sized pots for their size (if that makes sense).
I love them and they're both still blooming today!
Have a smashing weekend you lovely lot,
((WM))

I'd never even heard of Salvia or Hot Lips before it was mentioned on here. I just thought it was a funny coincidence that my late MiL had one and I ended up with it
Your Salvia looks very healthy, W_M, I bet the purple one is nice too.
I'm absolutely freezing... I was out for a couple of hours first thing trimming a hedge (with shears - good for the old bingo wings) and then digging out a weed-ridden area. Looks so much better, although I did dig up a few bulbs that I didn't know were there. I'm thinking of putting them in pots rather than replanting them. Anyway, I think I overdid it a bit as I've got the shakes now and a bad back.
Lovely chilli peppers, Dusty, they look nice and healthy. Sorry about the wee hen though
wort, I'm so glad your DD has finally got to exchange with her house. It does seem a very long time for things to be settled, considering the circumstances.
Lovely rose, twopenny. Even though it was accidental, it looks lovely on your windowsill. I like your pottery chook too.
greenbee, I think I've decided on new storage heaters, just need to see it through now.
Farway/wort, I had problems uploading photos too - I took a screenshot and then cropped it a bit and that worked - this was on my phone though.
No YBE today??
I'm off to have a hot shower now, I really am nithered, hopefully it'll warm me up. I've already had a hot chocolate (with dunked ginger nuts that I didn't need on the ferry). It definitely feels colder today - 13 in the front room - I can't wait to light the fire...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
I had this wee robin hopping around and twittering away while I was digging
It helped itself to a couple of wriggly critters that I’d uncovered and came quite close to me at one point… so cute 🥰

Maybe get on with getting storage heater quotes PP. That way you'll be warm sooner
I've also picked a couple of tomatoes (from the greenhouse) today. I'm going to have to start clearing it out soon - it always takes me ages to get it ready for the summer and I'd really like to get round to putting up the insulation and starting earlier for next year.6 -
Afternoon all, on World Kangaroo Day

Late on parade today. The bottom has dropped out of Posh Friend's world, so she's decamped to my back bedroom. Not sure what himself is gonna say (they don't really get on)
Woohoo for patient DD getting the probate house wort :clapping: Gawd I've forgotten everything else I've just read now, sorry folks.
The Essential Training session was undoubtedly absolutely essential, except if you're a MW phone-answering chai-wallah-ette. I'm not sure how often I'll have to call upon my newly learned rules and regulations about, for example, being extra super careful where rogue nation's leader's grandson's have got their money from, but never say never I spose
Not very warm out there, it being nearly November and all. And as for that 'storm', well we did get a while lot of rain overnight and it was windy yesterday but that's because it's Autumn you see. I didn't even get me Big Coat out
It'll be out tomorrow and Sunday mind, the Feels Like is dropping into the minus figures :O Possibly.
I'm might just be lurking for a wee while. I can hardly be tapping away on here in the mornings with Posh Friend sat slurping her tea and watching me... But if I find a decent Rottery Acres, or a good news story comments section I'll be right back

Oh guests are like fish Bluey, as the saying goes 😮
Just seen the new met office site,,......😟😐😬😠
Can only go back to the old one if you accept cookies. I don't like blackmail.
It's horrendous and unreadable. Dreadful.
So I'm choosing to leave. It's not as if they were right so no loss.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Good morning all, on International Artist Day

I think she'll be here longer than that 2p, but it's fine.
What's up with the sot's then? I only use the app and it hasn't changed. I've just looked at the website but I've nowt to compare it to, it does say about accepting cookies if I want to go back to the old one though. Looks a bit childish and basic to me.
About Mrs PB's party palace - I'm wondering now if I told this story without going back to check.
When Cissie and Beloved Cousin were here last year and we ran them down to Posh Cousin in Windsor, me and himself had a walk round Windsor Park. We got talking to a fellah sat smoking with his dog, and it turned out he was a ...gamekeeper...? or something on the estate. I can't remember now. He said she'd be trying to turn thingy out of the lodge for a good while and she wouldn't stop 'til she got it cos she was after it for her own "party palace", and it was only a matter of time before he did something that meant she could get him out. And here we are.
Cool out there this morning, but not the Feels Like 0'c the sots say it is. The pressure is rising (at last) and the humidity is dropping away. Bluddy windy though.Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.6 -
Morning, I wasn’t meaning a my words at you Dusty, I have just been very frustrated with it , all that money on rent when they could have been in not to mention what they charge. So sorry to hear about the hen, is it one of the fluffy legged ones?2p pretty rose, last one of summer makes it sad somehow. It’s definitely had a drop in temperature, feeling chilly this morning though thermostat in lounge is 15. It was much colder getting up. Might be time for the winter duvet.
YBE, Mrs PB turfing out the serfs eh? I’m not a news person but doesn’t surprise me.I hope your guest is only going to be very temporary and doesn’t pee your hubby off too much.
Pp a Robin always feels like a sign of winter that one has come up close too. Hope you managed to warm up.
Working this weekend, made soup yesterday carrot and coriander if you’re wondering, I did broccoli and Stilton early in the week. Nice for hot lunch if it’s chilly.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -
Blooming dark this morning and blowing a lot. Massive black clouds covering the sunrise but not too cold.
Doesn't look promising.
Don't be sad Wort, Probably won't be the last rose. The one over the arch is blooming but it's touch and go between the high winds we get now. It keeps rallying through.
Might go to the badger run and tidy up, nail the trellis back up - again if it isn't too wet.
Sheesh my tablet brings those words up first now 😕
Meeting a friend for coffee this lunchtime so that's 2hrs gone 🙂
I missed Dusty's sad news. The site seems not to want to give me all the posts despite refreshing.
I'd love to have chickens but I'd get too attached. I can just enjoy the farm ones happily clucking when I stop for my eggs, milk and now cakes.
It's a ginger sponge this week with a crisp sugar topping 😊
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I said what I didn't like about the sot's new-look site yesterday. Cookies or not, I'm back on the old one.
As for references to Mrs P-B, it took ages to work that out.....in fact I only just did!
I don't watch any soaps....
Whopping robin photos, pp.
Mine are much more wary at present, but there's a general dearth of birds just now, not just blackies, either. I stood in the stream area yesterday, looked and listened, but nothing moved.
Ours are behaving, so far.twopenny said:Oh guests are like fish Bluey, as the saying goes 😮.
No sign of them till around 09.00. A trip to Rosemoor's on the cards, but not in this keen wind, and a temperature forecast not to go above10c.
The hen was a buff coloured Sussex, wort. Might have been around 7 years old, so a good innings. She was the Boss Hen in her heyday. We don't have any very fluffy-legged hens, because they're prone to get very muddy in winter. My only news is a promise from the tractor guy to cut our hedges in a week's time. Looking at next week's forecast, he ought to be able to access the fields OK without leaving huge ruts. That's a relief!
We still need at least 50 new fence posts banged-in before we can have sheep, though. I have a promise about that too, though whether it will happen remains to be seen. We've had the posts waiting since 2022!
Talking of Salvias, varieties are now ten a penny, and some are rather unexceptional. One of the very best is this one. In fact, it's so good, the gardener at the Open Garden our club visited in June grows very few others.
Off to the market in the village today, to show my face and have a chinwag.
Then, maybe a wee trip to the GC for compost, but as it's Saturday, maybe not. I can probably scrape by till Monday.
Just say, "No!"5
